Job Summary
We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Optometric Technician / Receptionist to join our dedicated team. This role combines front desk responsibilities with clinical support, ensuring a smooth patient experience from check-in to exam completion. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating excellent communication skills and a passion for patient care.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, verify insurance information, and update medical records accurately using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms
- Collect patient intake information, including medical history and current eye concerns, while maintaining HIPAA compliance to ensure confidentiality
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse; perform basic vision tests as directed by the optometrist
- Assist with clinical procedures using aseptic technique to ensure infection control during eye exams or treatments
- Support optical services by helping patients select frames, providing retail sales assistance, and applying retail math principles for accurate transactions
- Maintain organized medical records, update patient files, and ensure compliance with medical coding and billing standards
- Manage front desk duties including scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and coordinating patient flow efficiently
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical office settings or ophthalmology clinics preferred; familiarity with optical or optometry environments is highly valued
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to eye health and ophthalmology
- Experience with EMR systems such as Crystal Practice Management or other healthcare software; understanding of medical coding and billing processes is a plus
- Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically
- Ability to perform intake procedures, take vital signs accurately, and follow aseptic techniques diligently
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy at all times
- Retail sales experience combined with strong organizational skills for front desk operations and clinic support
