Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will support veterinarians in providing exceptional animal care and ensure smooth clinic operations. This role involves assisting with animal handling, medical procedures, and client communication, contributing to a positive experience for both pets and their owners. Prior experience in veterinary clinics, animal husbandry, or kennel work is highly valued, along with a strong understanding of veterinary terminology and pet care practices.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with medical procedures, including medication administration, animal restraint, and catheterization.
- Handle animals safely and humanely, including dog handling, equine experience, and general animal handling techniques.
- Maintain cleanliness and aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection and ensure safety.
- Support pet care activities such as feeding, bathing, grooming, and monitoring vital signs.
- Manage accurate patient records.
- Restrain animals effectively during examinations or treatments using appropriate techniques.
- Assist with laboratory procedures such as sample collection and basic testing.
- Educate pet owners on animal care, medication schedules, and post-treatment instructions.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure proper storage of medications and equipment.
- Support laboratory work or other specialized tasks such as animal physiology assessments or pet care education.
Qualifications
- Previous kennel experience or animal husbandry background preferred.
- Experience working as a veterinary assistant in a veterinary clinic setting required.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques essential.
- Hands-on experience with animal restraint, medication administration, laboratory procedures, and pet care required.
- Strong animal handling skills including dog handling and equine experience preferred.
- Familiarity with front desk operations within a veterinary environment is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
