Quick Summary:
We are seeking a Project Engineer with 1 to 3 years of commercial construction or related engineering experience, including internship or co-op experience. This is a support-level role for someone who understands construction documentation, RFIs, submittals, drawings, project coordination, and communication between the office, field, subcontractors, and design teams.
Position Overview:
A growing commercial general contractor is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the technical and administrative side of commercial construction projects. This role will assist the project management team with documentation, coordination, tracking, and communication throughout the project lifecycle.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable reading construction documents, and eager to grow within commercial construction project management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, and other project documentation.
- Maintain project logs, tracking documents, meeting notes, and project files.
- Support communication between project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and design teams.
- Review drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Help track materials, procurement, deliveries, and project documentation.
- Support project scheduling and coordination of trades.
- Assist with quality control, punch list tracking, and closeout documentation.
- Attend project meetings and assist with meeting minutes and follow-up items.
- Help ensure documentation is accurate, organized, and updated throughout the project.
- Assist superintendents and project managers with field-related tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- 1 to 3 years of experience in commercial construction, construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant internship or co-op experience in commercial construction will be considered.
- Some experience working with or around a general contractor is preferred.
- Solid understanding of construction processes, documentation, and project coordination.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- Strong organizational, communication, and follow-up skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with construction software such as Procore, ProjectSight, PlanGrid, or Bluebeam is a plus.
- Familiarity with scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera is a plus.
- OSHA 10 certification is preferred.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.
- Equivalent experience may be considered for candidates with strong commercial construction exposure.
- Additional Requirements:
- Ability to walk active job sites, climb ladders, and work in active construction environments.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Stable work history and strong professional references preferred.
