General Description:
We’re seeking a hands-on, Formulating Chemist to lead development and R&D for our resinous flooring systems (epoxy, polyurethane, polyaspartic, MMA, novolac, urethane cement). This role bridges product development, application, troubleshooting, quality, and execution through commercialization of current products and new chemistries. This role takes the lead in creating an innovation track that focuses on ensuring customers achieve exceptional installation outcomes and our products perform to specification across diverse environments (industrial, commercial, healthcare, food & beverage, and aerospace etc.).
Essential Job Functions:
Formulation & R&D
- Formulate, optimize, and scale resin systems (epoxy, polyaspartic, polyurethane, MMA, urethane cement) across primers, self-levelers, slurry, broadcast, quartz/flake, topcoats, ESD, antimicrobial, and chemical resistant systems.
- Design experiments (DOE) to balance performance: viscosity, working time, cure kinetics, hardness (Shore D), abrasion (Taber), tensile/compressive strength, impact (ASTM D2794), chemical resistance (ASTM D1308), UV/yellowing resistance, slip resistance (ANSI A326.3).
- Select raw materials (resins, curing agents, reactive diluents, flexibilizers, pigments, fillers, aggregates, defoamers, flow/leveling aids, adhesion promoters) and qualify vendors.
- Perform lab QC and release testing; develop test methods and acceptance criteria (specs/COAs).
- Scale up formulations with manufacturing; write batch instructions and handling/SOPs.
- Maintain product change controls and versioning; collaborate on new product launches.
Quality, Compliance
- Ensure compliance with VOC and hazardous substance regulations (EPA/TSCA, OSHA HazCom, REACH where applicable; local/state rules).
- Author and review SDS; support labeling and transport classification (DOT/IMDG/IATA).
- Drive CAPA for field failures; perform root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions.
- Maintain ISO aligned documentation and calibration schedules for lab equipment.
- Training, Documentation & Cross Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product Management, Sales, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to prioritize roadmap, streamline production, and align inventory with demand on new products and innovations.
- Support follow-up on root cause analysis through and in conjunction with Technical Service on all products created or developed in the lab.
- Driving solutions and product improvements through lab and bench development.
- All other duties as assigned
Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
