The Hilb Group is currently seeking a motivated and ambitious Agency Commissions Manager to join our team. This position will report to our agency located in Richmond, VA. The ideal candidate will be motivated to succeed, is well organized, able to prioritize, and able to work well with a team. This is an in-office position. Responsibilities: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of payroll and commission associates, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Build team expertise in complex commission structures and ensure readiness to support organizational change and business growth. Partner with HR and Legal to design, review, and standardize commission agreements and employment contracts, ensuring fairness, consistency, and compliance. Develop and enforce standardized policies and operating procedures to enhance scalability, transparency, and risk management. Collaborate with Finance leadership (Corporate, FP&A, and Regional) to align payroll and commission practices with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Drive automation initiatives in partnership with IT and system vendors (Workday, AMS, Benefit Point), reducing manual work and enhancing accuracy. Serve as business owner for payroll and commission system improvements, leading requirements design, vendor evaluation, and implementation. Champion data-driven solutions by implementing real-time dashboards and reporting capabilities. Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing across diverse structures (base draw, true commission draw, hybrid models). Oversee reconciliation of draw accounts, bonuses, and payroll journals, ensuring proper accounting and compliance with financial policies. Safeguard confidentiality of payroll and personnel data while ensuring compliance with regulatory, tax, and audit requirements. Oversee commission calculations, reconciliations, and payouts across new business, renewals, and split agreements. Partner with Operations, Agency Leads, and Direct Bill teams to quickly resolve discrepancies and ensure stakeholders are compensated accurately. Develop and distribute standardized commission reporting, driving transparency and accountability at all levels. Support internal and external audits, ensuring accuracy of records, compliance with contracts, and implementation of corrective actions. Establish key dashboards and reporting tools for payroll and commissions to proactively identify risks and performance trends. Conduct root-cause analyses to address discrepancies and uncover opportunities for automation and process improvement. Provide insights and recommendations to leadership to inform workforce planning, compensation strategies, and operational efficiency initiatives. Qualifications: Proven experience managing payroll and/or commission functions in a complex, high-volume environment. Strong knowledge of Workday, AMS, Benefit Point, or comparable payroll/commission systems. Demonstrated success in driving automation, process redesign, and cross-functional collaboration. Excellent partnership skills, with experience working closely with HR, Legal, Finance, and IT. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities. High attention to detail and a strong commitment to compliance, accuracy, and data integrity. Leadership experience with the ability to inspire, coach, and build high-performing teams.
