Director of Accounting and Finance

Crown Painting is seeking a hands-on and strategic Director of Accounting and Finance to guide our multistate financial operations, partner with our CEO, and drive job profitability across 50 active job sites.

description of duties:

As our Director of Accounting and Finance, you will be responsible for:

  • On-Site Leadership: Be present, lead from the front, and coach a lean but capable accounting team.
  • Strategic Tactical: Guide financial planning and dive deep into daily operations, stepping in to back up any function as needed.
  • Operational Finance: Build forecasting tools, optimize job costing systems, and deliver real-time insights to improve jobsite decisions.
  • Construction-Specific Controls: Oversee WIP, AIA billing, retention tracking, and subcontractor compliance across multiple states.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with California DIR, prevailing wage, certified payroll, and Nevada regulatory requirements.
  • Process Builder: Implement SOPs, streamline workflows, and identify redundancies or cost leaks.
  • Business Partner: Support the CEO in evaluating new opportunities (AI, software transitions, divisional changes) and act as a true second-in-command.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • 10 years of progressive financial leadership in construction or subcontracting preferred.
  • Deep expertise in job costing, WIP, AIA billing, certified payroll, and retention.
  • Experience with multistate payroll and tax compliance (CA and NV labor rules required).
  • Strong systems experience within construction accounting platforms and Excel-based modeling.
  • Demonstrated success managing multi-layered accounting teams.
  • Financially disciplined and operationally savvy—with a hands-on, humble leadership style.
