description of duties:
As our Director of Accounting and Finance, you will be responsible for:
- On-Site Leadership: Be present, lead from the front, and coach a lean but capable accounting team.
- Strategic Tactical: Guide financial planning and dive deep into daily operations, stepping in to back up any function as needed.
- Operational Finance: Build forecasting tools, optimize job costing systems, and deliver real-time insights to improve jobsite decisions.
- Construction-Specific Controls: Oversee WIP, AIA billing, retention tracking, and subcontractor compliance across multiple states.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with California DIR, prevailing wage, certified payroll, and Nevada regulatory requirements.
- Process Builder: Implement SOPs, streamline workflows, and identify redundancies or cost leaks.
- Business Partner: Support the CEO in evaluating new opportunities (AI, software transitions, divisional changes) and act as a true second-in-command.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 10 years of progressive financial leadership in construction or subcontracting preferred.
- Deep expertise in job costing, WIP, AIA billing, certified payroll, and retention.
- Experience with multistate payroll and tax compliance (CA and NV labor rules required).
- Strong systems experience within construction accounting platforms and Excel-based modeling.
- Demonstrated success managing multi-layered accounting teams.
- Financially disciplined and operationally savvy—with a hands-on, humble leadership style.
