Work Arrangement: Monday thru Friday 6:00am - 2:30pm with the possibility of working overtime and holidays.
What You’ll Do: The Trailer Mechanic will be responsible for maintenance repairs on all mechanics on trailers, containers, and chassis. Conduct regular on-site inspections of trailers, containers, chassis, and other related equipment to determine needed repairs. Troubleshoot and make appropriate repairs, including electrical and brake systems, landing gear, suspension, tires, and wheel group.
PAY: As Per CBA
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Compensation, including hourly wages or salary, benefits, and other terms of employment, will be in accordance with the applicable union contract. Specific pay rates and benefits will be provided during the hiring process and are based on the terms outlined in the agreement.
EXPERIENCE: Must have verifiable Trailer Mechanic work experience, specializing in Trailer & Container repairs and be able to furnish references of former employers specializing in chassis & trailer repair. Be able to identify and/or repair the following:

- All General Maintenance: Repair ICC bumpers, mudflaps & brackets, manifest or registration holders, gladhands, crank handles, landing gear cross shaft, free-up brakes, and slack adjusters.
- Welding Certification: Must be AWS (American Welding Society) certified or compatible. Minimum three (3) years of verifiable experience.
- Electrical System: Must know D.O.T lighting requirements and regulations and be able to diagnose/trouble shoot lighting problems in a reasonable time and know color code.
- Brake System: Must know D.O.T. brake system requirements/regulation and be able to diagnose/trouble brake system problems and all types of brake repairs preventative maintenance. RE: brake jobs, cam bushing, etc.
- Landing Gear: Trouble shooting inoperable landing gear before replacing any landing gear. Replace complete landing gear assembly, mounting brackets, leg braces, sandshoes and housings, etc.
- Suspension: Repair or replacement of springs, radius rods, spring angers and equalizers, U-bolts, complete axle. Must know how to properly align tandems.
- Wheel Group: Replace spoke wheels, oil/grease hubcaps, wheel seals and bearings. Must know how to identify bad bearings and races.
- Tires: Be able to identify and report any of the following tire defects:
- Flat or over/under inflated * Severe weather checking 2/32" or deeper
- Kissing * Blowout
- 2/32" or less tread depth * Mismatched tires
- Cap separation * Abnormal wear
- Cut through cord side walls * Proper rim & lock ring application
- Structure Repairs: The following is a list of structure repairs that are required and preferred for all mechanics on trailers, containers, and chassis.
- Splice, patch, or insert side panel * Roof splices, patches, or inserts
- Corner post/radius panel-splices, patches, or inserts
- Roof bow replacements * Nose rail, corner cap, and corner casting replacement
- Repair door * Crossmember - replacement or inserting
- Floor sections (laminated oak, apitong, marine plywood for containers)
- Minor reefer body repairs-foaming, patching, etc. * Paint requirements and specs
- All types of welding-aluminum, steel, MIG welding machine
- Complete side panel replacement. Corner post/radius panel-replacement
- Top/bottom rail splices, plating, and inserts
- Complete roof replacement * Top/bottom rail replacement
- Build and replace complete door * Upper coupler/kingpin and plate replacement
- Complete floor replacement * Frame straightening-rails, bolsters, etc.
- Paint requirements and specs
- Must have verifiable welding experience (MIG and Arc)
- Minimum of 1-year verifiable experience performing FMCSA inspections.
- Must be able to insert data into a system using a mobile electronic.
- Must be able to read, understand, and work from service directives and technical instructions.
- Must furnish small hand tools used in tire repair: pliers and probes for removing nails and 2 lb. hammers.
- Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Must have legible penmanship.
- Have or are willing to attain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) badge.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
