THE COMPANY
A structural steel fabricator headquartered in South Central Indiana, backed by an experienced private family office sponsor and in the early stages of a multi-year operational transformation. The Accounting Clerk supports the day-to-day accounting function across the group of operating companies and works under the Senior Staff Accountant. This is a hands-on, transactional role. The right candidate is organized, accurate, and wants to grow into broader accounting work over time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Transactional Accounting
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice entry, payment runs, customer billing, and collections follow-up. Enter and reconcile transactions across bank, credit card, and ledger accounts. Maintain accurate general ledger records and keep clean documentation behind each entry. Resolve discrepancies by working directly with internal team members and outside vendors.
Close and Reporting Support
Assist with the monthly close, including reconciling assigned accounts on the cadence set by the Senior Staff Accountant. Support preparation of financial statements and internal reports by pulling schedules and supporting detail. Maintain organized documentation and filing systems so records can be traced quickly.
Systems and Process
Work in the accounting software to input data, run reports, and maintain data integrity. Support audits and reviews by gathering documentation and preparing workpapers as requested. Flag process gaps and help improve accounting controls over time.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Required Experience
1 to 3 years in an accounting or finance support role, or equivalent practical experience. Solid bookkeeping skills, including AP/AR management and accurate ledger maintenance. Foundational knowledge of accounting and finance principles, especially as applied to small and lower middle-market businesses. Proficiency with accounting software and related tools for data entry, reporting, and reconciliations. High attention to detail and integrity in handling confidential financial information.
Strongly Preferred
Associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Experience assisting with financial statements, including supporting schedules and documentation. Exposure to job-cost, WIP, or construction accounting. Familiarity with Vista ERP, Tekla PowerFab, or comparable systems. Exposure to a multi-entity environment.
