Ready, Set, Paddle! Teach the Game Everyone’s Talking About at the YMCA!

POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
The Pickleball Instructor will focus on developing and enhancing our pickleball teaching and coaching program to improve participants’ pickleball skills and abilities. The position includes developing a schedule for instruction and instructing lessons, classes, and clinics.  Provide leadership to the pickleball program and ensure a safe environment with pristine courts, facilities, and equipment maintained for the highest delivery of the program. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide a safe and welcoming environment to members, participants, and guests by monitoring the designated pickleball areas and ensuring all follow pickleball rules and policies.
2. Foster strong sportsmanship behaviors to create a healthy experience for athletics and teamwork.
3. Enforce member expectations which include but are not limited to using appropriate language and actions towards others.
4. Instruct pickleball lessons, clinics, and drill sessions on techniques, tactics, and strategies to improve participants’ overall game.  This includes both one-on-one lessons and group clinics for all levels.
5. Ensure we are offering Intro to Pickleball sessions regularly.
6. Evaluate equipment and report any need to fix or replace items used. 
7. Clean the general pickleball areas to ensure a great member experience.
8. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
9. Ensures compliance with all Crossroads YMCA policies and standard operating procedures.
10. Confirm members are signed up for all open skill-level play sessions and playing on the correct court(s).
11. Understands and properly executes opening and closing procedures.
12. Attends and participates in other YMCA program activities, trainings, and staff meetings as assigned.
13. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergencies as outlined in emergency procedures.
14. Assist in YMCA fundraising activities and special events as designated by the Branch Executive Director.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum age 18 required.
2. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.
3. Advanced knowledge of the game of Pickleball, including a mastery of the game and the ability to teach and share the game with others.
4. Pickleball Instructor/Teaching Certification by a recognized pickleball certification organization, which may include IPTPA, PPR, YMCA, or receive certification within 6 months of hire.
5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
6. Ability to relate and communicate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
7. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
8. Must have a passion for learning, working with youth/families, and sports in general.
9. Desire and ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds.
10. Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
