Patients and families near the end of life should have a caregiver committed to the art, science, and skill of delivering compassion. Death is a meaningful experience for patients and loved ones. We only have one chance to get it right. Delivering compassion the right way is not easy; it takes skill, heart, commitment, and structure to do it well.

Gift of a Day Coordinator Requirements and Core Responsibilities:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
• High school degree required. 
• Direct experience in event planning, volunteer management, and recruitment Required.
• Must be flexible and able to work some evenings and weekends.
• A minimum of 2 years of work experience with volunteer programs highly desirable.
• Plan Gift of a Day events with attention to detail, individualization, and budget.
• Enter Gift of a Day events into the Crossroads Hospice database to ensure media coverage.
• Recruit volunteers to participate in the planning and execution of Gift of a Day events.  Compile and manage a resource file with service providers and volunteers.
• Attempt to obtain donated goods and services for Gift of a Day.
• Positively and respectfully communicate “Gift of a Day” events to all staff and encourage attendance and participation.
• Must possess interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients and their families, as well as all interdisciplinary caregivers, peers, subordinates, and supervisors.
• Must exhibit or demonstrate the ability to learn computer skills related to required clinical software and electronic clinical record utilization.
• Must have reliable vehicle/transportation, valid driver’s license, required automobile insurance, and the ability to safely and independently operate said vehicle.
• Must be highly dependable, organized, and autonomous in work style.
  • Act independently and responsibly to perform duties on a consistent basis.
  • Demonstrate financial responsibility in role.
  • Demonstrate a professional approach with staff, physicians, significant others, patients, staff personnel, and others.
• Update patient-specific Hospice IDG Care Plan with relevant Gift of a Day information.
• Assist with Volunteer Program as assigned (planning, implementation, retention, recruitment, and development).
• Record volunteer hour's cost-savings in accordance with Medicare guidelines including:  Assist in sending, receiving, reviewing and documenting findings from the volunteer satisfaction survey(s) sent to and received from active volunteers
• Assist in marketing efforts including social networking efforts, press releases, newsletters, photography, and production of photo albums for patient and/or family of Gift of a Day Events.
• Participate in utilization review activities and the QAPI Program activities.
• Assist with EMC as needed.
