Brief Description:
The Peer Support Specialist enhances recovery outcomes by serving as a consumer advocate and recovery role model within the psychosocial rehabilitation program. Drawing upon their lived experience with mental health challenges and personal recovery journey, the Peer Support Specialist offers intentional, empathetic support that fosters connection, hope, and empowerment.
Responsibilities include:
Advocacy and Support: Walks alongside program members, offering encouragement, understanding, and advocacy as they navigate their recovery paths.
Lived Experience: Utilizes personal recovery story in a purposeful and professional manner to inspire and demonstrate that recovery is possible.
Psychoeducational Facilitation: Leads non-clinical psychoeducational groups focused on wellness, coping strategies, self-management, and stress reduction.
Skill Modeling: Demonstrates and teaches practical recovery and coping skills, including problem-solving, communication, and self-care strategies.
Rapport and Engagement: Builds trusting relationships through shared experience, empathy, and consistent support, helping peers feel seen, heard, and valued.
Crisis and Stress Support: Provides early intervention and peer-level support during periods of increased stress or emotional difficulty.
