Being an SLP means improving communication and quality of life, but where and how you do that work matters. If you’re exploring opportunities, here are some important questions to ask (and how Crossroads thoughtfully answers them). Is This a Mission-Driven Role or a Productivity-Driven One? At Crossroads Center for Children, our work is grounded in purpose. We are a not-for-profit, school-based program serving children ages 2–10 using a behaviorally based educational model rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). We do not operate on a high-volume, productivity-pressured clinic model. Instead, our focus is on meaningful outcomes for students, collaborative decision-making, and ethical, thoughtful service delivery. Speech therapy here is integrated into the school day and aligned with each student’s educational and functional goals. Will I Be Part of a True Team? Yes and that’s one of the most frequently cited reasons SLPs love working here. As an SLP at Crossroads, you’ll collaborate daily with: Special Education Teachers Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) Occupational Therapists Physical Therapists Teaching Assistants You’ll also be part of a team of speech-language pathologists, allowing for consultation, shared problem-solving, and professional support. Collaboration isn’t an afterthought here, it’s built into the structure of the day. Is There a Healthy Work–Life Balance? School-based work should feel like school-based work. At Crossroads: Your schedule follows the school calendar, including a six-week summer program Work hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. No evenings, weekends, or productivity quotas Paid time off aligned with school breaks This role is designed to be sustainable, predictable, and family-friendly. What Will My Clinical Work Look Like? SLPs at Crossroads provide therapy that is practical, collaborative, and student-centered. Responsibilities include: Providing speech-language therapy in individual and small-group formats (push-in and pull-out) Conducting standardized and non-standardized assessments Ongoing evaluation of student progress Writing reports for billing and educational documentation Maintaining IEP documentation and progress notes Attending IEP and team meetings as needed Collaborating closely with teachers and BCBAs to support effective intervention Experience with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder is preferred, but not required — we value strong clinicians who are eager to learn and grow within an ABA-supported environment. Will I Continue to Grow as a Professional? We strongly believe that supporting our staff means investing in them. Crossroads offers: Paid initial training Continuing education opportunities Tuition reimbursement for college or graduate coursework Professional development assistance Conference reimbursement Ongoing collaboration and mentorship Clinical Fellowship (CF) applicants are welcome and supported.
