Department: Customer Service
Status: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
The New Account Representative/Personal Banker must provide excellent customer service & inform/sell bank products to existing and potential customers on a daily basis. Perform all necessary functions to serve customers with the opening and ongoing maintenance of deposit accounts.
Supervisory responsibility: None
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma, college degree or work experience equivalent.
- Well-developed customer & interpersonal skills; work experience in customer service preferred.
- Previous banking experience preferred but not required.
- Proficient computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Word.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to read, write, speak & understand English well (Spanish as a 2nd language is an asset but not required).
- Excellent verbal communication skills, in person & by telephone.
- Excellent math skills & understanding of basic accounting.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to question customers to determine their banking needs & to cross-sell banking products.
- Ability to listen and solve customers’ problems regarding products & services, and to seek supervisory assistance as needed.
- Ability to determine if further investigation is needed on a potential or existing customer to protect against losses.
- Flexibility & initiative to learn numerous areas of banking to fulfill job function.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Knowledge of all bank products & services – including but not limited to Checking, Savings, IRA’s, Certificates of Deposit, Safe Deposit, Electronic Banking, ATM cards, Check Orders.
- An understanding of the rules and regulations for all bank services & deposit products.
- Perform all necessary verifications and processes for account opening.
- Be aware of customer’ ongoing and potential financial service needs, look for cross selling opportunities, and introduce the customer to the appropriate Bank Officer or employee.
- Produce documents daily for bank products that customers have purchased and review the documents for accuracy.
- Effectively explain bank policies and regulations in order to obtain proper documentation for accounts daily.
- Analyze statement costs for customers and recommend ways customers can keep their service charges low to provide customer satisfaction.
- Represent the bank in a personable, efficient manner when in contact with customers whether in person or by telephone.
- Assist other departments when needed & perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting/Mobility: Approximately 70% of time is spent working at a desk; the balance of time is spent moving around work areas.
- Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, members, and outside agencies in writing, in person, and over the phone.
- Vision: Ability to effectively use a computer screen and interpret printed materials, memos, and other appropriate paperwork.
- Lifting/Carrying: Ability to transport boxes of coin, files & office supplies.
- Stooping/Kneeling: Ability to access files/stock supplies in high or low cabinets and shelves.
- Reaching/Handling: Ability to input information into computer systems and retrieve and work with appropriate paperwork, equipment, and supplies.
