What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cleaner position at Crossroads Animal Hospital?
Animal Hospital Cleaning & Maintenance Team Member
Crossroads Animal Hospital | Fast-Paced Veterinary Environment
Do you love animals, enjoy staying busy, and take pride in a job well done? Are you looking for a way to get your foot in the door of the veterinary field? Crossroads Animal Hospital is looking for a Cleaning & Maintenance Team Member to join our busy animal hospital!
This is so much more than a cleaning job! You’ll play an important role in keeping our hospital clean, safe, organized, and running smoothly while also getting hands-on exposure to the veterinary world.
Whether you have previous veterinary experience or are completely new to the field, this position can be a great opportunity to learn about animal care, veterinary medicine, and what happens behind the scenes in a busy animal hospital.
What You'll Be Doing
Our Cleaning & Maintenance Team helps keep Crossroads operating at its best. Your day may include:
- Keeping the hospital clean, organized, and looking its best
- Assisting veterinary technicians, assistants, and doctors with animal handling and restraint
- Helping with tasks such as nail trims, blood draws, and patient restraint when trained to do so
- Keeping up with laundry and maintaining clean linens throughout the hospital
- Unpacking deliveries and helping receive and organize shipments
- Thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting exam rooms between patients
- Responding quickly to "clean-up calls" throughout the hospital
- Cleaning and maintaining equipment, work areas, and tools
- Helping our veterinary team wherever needed
- Providing a positive, professional, and helpful presence for both our team and our patients
What You Can Learn Here
One of the best parts of this position is the opportunity to learn!
As you become comfortable in the hospital, you’ll gain exposure to:
- Proper animal handling and restraint techniques
- Animal behavior and how to safely work with different personalities and temperaments
- Common veterinary diseases, symptoms, and methods of transmission
- Veterinary hospital cleaning and disinfection protocols
- How different departments and team members work together to care for patients
- The day-to-day operations of a busy veterinary hospital
No previous veterinary experience? That's okay! We're looking for someone who is dependable, willing to learn, comfortable around animals, and ready to be part of a team.
This Job Is Active!
This position is definitely not a sit-at-a-desk-all-day job! You should be comfortable being on your feet, moving throughout the hospital, and occasionally getting your hands dirty.
The position may require:
- Lifting and moving items weighing 50 lbs
- Handling and assisting with dogs that may weigh 150 lbs
- Using physical strength when safely handling and restraining animals
- Working around animal waste, unpleasant odors, and occasional loud noises
- Working around animals that may bite, scratch, or become frightened
- Handling aftercare of deceased animals
- Occasional outdoor tasks
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who:
- Loves animals and is comfortable working around dogs and cats
- Takes pride in keeping things clean and organized
- Is dependable and ready to work in a fast-paced environment
- Has a positive, cheerful, and helpful attitude
- Is comfortable working as part of a team
- Can take direction and is willing to learn
- Understands that cleanliness is a very important part of patient care
- Can stay calm and professional when things get messy or unpredictable
Experience Is a Plus!
Previous experience in a veterinary hospital, animal care, kennel setting, cleaning/maintenance, or another medical environment is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person.
If you're looking for an opportunity to work with animals, learn about veterinary medicine, stay active, and become part of a team that cares about what they do, we'd love to hear from you!
