Job purpose
The Billing/Accounting Associate will analyze patient accounts, collect payments, pay bills, assist with financial audit, serve as back-up for the billing coordinator and perform other duties as required.
Duties and responsibilities
- Working off our Next Day Prep (NDP) spreadsheet, analyze patient balances and advise clinicians of the financial status of their clients.
- Maintains communication with patients and third party payors until accounts are paid or referred to another appropriate agency for further collections activity.
- Assist with routine monthly payments as approved.
- Apply payments to our electronic health system.
- Prepare monthly financial statements.
- Create and send bills to patient as needed.
- Assist with managing third party billing.
- Assist with submitting billing claims to insurers and/or billing clearinghouse.
- Assist with follow up with each claim to ensure payment.
- Assist with facilitating communication with providers and payors to ensure all elements of a claim are in place including pre-authorizations.
- Assist with verifying client insurance eligibility.
- Produce reports as needed to show that key benchmarks are met.
· Work collaboratively with accounting, billing, clinical, and leadership to achieve performance goals.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· Support administrative staff with credentialling providers with insurance payors and with state licensing entities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Basic understanding of clerical and administrative procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to solve problems as they arise.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Billing and bookkeeping experience.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associates degree or vocational school training preferred.
- Two years experience working in a similar capacity.
- Must be able to pass a Background Record Check (BRC)
Physical requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting, listening, and observing or working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
- May be exposed to clients with infectious disease
