What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Development Specialist, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
- $100,000 annual salary, distributed weekly, with full health benefits
At Alpha, academic instruction is delivered through software. Personalized learning apps guide each student through content at an individual pace. There are no lectures, no homework assignments, no papers to grade. This structure allows you to focus entirely on the work that transforms lives: facilitating life skills workshops where teens develop public speaking ability, concentration, and feedback literacy, then coaching them individually to maintain momentum and achieve their learning targets. Half your time is spent leading group sessions. The other half is spent in one-on-one coaching, reviewing Coachbot analytics to pinpoint exactly where a student is struggling and why.
After every workshop, students complete a mastery-based assessment. You're expected to earn a 90% approval rating. Every student should be progressing consistently in their learning apps. These aren't stretch goals—they're standards. Setting high expectations demonstrates your confidence in their potential. In this role, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that teenagers genuinely want to attend, gain fluency with advanced educational technology, and form meaningful relationships with students and families. Our Brownsville location is adjacent to SpaceX. The cutting edge of education meets the cutting edge of aerospace, and you'll be the one fulfilling Alpha's central mission: students who are excited about school, learn at twice the typical rate, and acquire skills with real-world value. If you've been searching for a school model that aligns with your vision of what education should be, you've found it.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for high school students covering areas such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback skills, with mastery validated through structured Test2Pass evaluations
- Conducting daily coaching sessions informed by Coachbot data to engage individual students, diagnose learning obstacles within their apps, and help them move past barriers
- Co-creating personalized motivation plans with students, incorporating rewards and incentive structures that encourage autonomous advancement in their academic applications
- Preparing by reviewing curriculum materials and session outlines, then adjusting your approach in real time based on group dynamics and student engagement
- Delivering content instruction in traditional subjects. Math, literacy, and all academic material are taught through software.
- Overseeing school operations or supervising staff. No budget oversight, no recruitment, no administrative committees—you concentrate exclusively on your student cohort.
- Relying on punitive discipline methods. No detention, no suspension, no appeals to authority. You cultivate respect and energy through reasoning and positive reinforcement.
