What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- W2 salary of $120,000/year paid weekly; comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits begin on day one
- In-person placement at an Alpha K-8 campus located in Beverly Hills, CA; Piedmont, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR (relocation assistance available)
The kindest thing you can do for a student who reached 99% of their target is to call it what it is: incomplete. If that mindset makes you uneasy, this role is not for you. But if it energizes you—because maintaining high expectations is how you signal your belief in a student's potential—then read on.
At Alpha, students complete their academic work through AI-driven applications. No classroom lectures. No traditional textbooks. Roughly 60% of your time is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions covering topics like public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback. Around 30% of your time is devoted to individual or small-group check-ins where you analyze Coachbot performance data and guide each student toward their weekly app targets. The remaining 10% involves reviewing metrics that inform your coaching strategy for the week ahead. You are not following a rigid script; workshops serve as a foundation, and top performers in this role refine them and create new content as needed.
Success in a semester means at least 90% of your cohort achieves their weekly app targets, demonstrates measurable improvement in life skills via Test2Pass, and rates their experience with you at 4 out of 5 or higher. Falling short on any of these three metrics means the role has not been fulfilled. Once you demonstrate your ability to uphold these standards, advancement opportunities open to Lead Guide—mentoring new Guides while continuing to coach a cohort—and eventually to Campus Lead, where you oversee an entire school and manage parent engagement.
If you are drawn to conventional teaching, prefer receiving a pre-built curriculum, or think kindness and rigor cannot coexist, this position is not the right fit. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp leadership, tutoring students through setbacks, or performing in front of middle schoolers, the final interview stage is a full on-campus day coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you, submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 cohorts on topics such as public speaking, focus, feedback exchange, and other foundational competencies, refining existing content and creating new sessions when you identify a need
- Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching conversations that drive every student toward their weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot data, Alpha's motivational structures (including school currency and leaderboards), and personal rapport to overcome reluctance
- Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's competency-based evaluation) for each life skill, and continuing to coach students who do not succeed until they achieve mastery
- Adjusting your approach across a broad developmental spectrum, from kindergarteners who thrive on energy and physical activity to 8th graders who respond to candid dialogue and personal responsibility
- Analyzing weekly cohort metrics in Coachbot, pinpointing students falling behind, and recalibrating your coaching tactics for the upcoming week based on performance indicators
- Delivering content at a whiteboard; academic material is housed in the apps, not delivered by you
- Creating an entire program from scratch; you begin with an established framework and personalize it with your energy and narrative style
- Passively monitoring students at workstations; motivation in this role is direct, individualized, and persistent
- Waiting for approval to support a struggling student; if additional coaching time is warranted, you decide and implement immediately
- Grading assignments, running test-prep sessions, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage parent communication, and the other tasks are not part of this model
Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort meets their weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year with a positive view of you.

- Bachelor's degree in any field
- A minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (including classroom teaching, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program leadership)
