Youth Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

Crossover
Portland, OR Full Time
POSTED ON 5/28/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/18/2026
  • $120,000 annual W2 compensation, distributed weekly; full health, dental, and vision coverage begins on day one
  • Full-time on-site role at an Alpha K-8 school in Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR (relocation assistance available)

This role is not about teaching. It is about motivation.

The most meaningful support you can offer a student who reaches 99% of their target is to refuse to accept it as complete. If that principle feels uncomfortable, this may not be the right fit. If it energizes you—because maintaining a high standard is how you demonstrate belief in a student's ability to meet it—read on.

At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-driven applications. There are no lectures or textbooks. Approximately 60% of your time is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering topics like public speaking, focus, and constructive feedback. Roughly 30% involves sitting with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress via Coachbot analytics, and driving each toward their weekly app targets. The remaining 10% is dedicated to data analysis that informs the next week's coaching strategy. You will not be executing a rigid script; workshops provide a framework, and top performers in this position modify them and create new ones as needed.

Success in a semester is defined by at least 90% of students in your cohort meeting their weekly app goals, demonstrating measurable improvement in life skills on Test2Pass, and rating their experience with you at 4 out of 5 or higher. Falling short on any of these three metrics means the role has not been fulfilled. As you demonstrate the ability to uphold these standards, advancement opportunities open to Lead Guide—mentoring newer Guides while continuing to lead a cohort—and eventually to Campus Lead, overseeing an entire school and managing parent engagement.

If you prefer traditional teaching methods, expect a predefined curriculum, or view warmth and rigor as conflicting, this position is not suitable. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring students through difficult challenges, or performing for groups of 12-year-olds, the final step before receiving an offer is a full day on campus coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you most, submit your application today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts covering public speaking, focus, feedback exchange, and other lasting competencies, modifying the existing playbook and creating new sessions when you identify a need
  • Conducting daily one-on-one and small-group coaching sessions designed to propel every student toward their weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's motivational tools (school currency, leaderboards), and your rapport with each student to overcome resistance
  • Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's competency-based evaluation) for each life skill, and continuing to coach students who do not achieve passing until they succeed
  • Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct communication and accountability
  • Analyzing weekly cohort performance metrics in Coachbot, pinpointing students falling behind, and modifying your coaching strategy for the upcoming week based on data insights

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Teaching at a whiteboard; academic content is delivered through the apps, not by you
  • Creating an entire curriculum from scratch; you begin with an established playbook and customize it with your own style and narrative approach
  • Passively monitoring students on computers; motivation in this role is active, personal, and persistent
  • Working through bureaucratic processes to secure resources for students in need; if a student requires additional coaching time, you decide and implement the same day
  • Grading assignments, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent communications; Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the rest does not apply here

Youth Coach Key Responsibilities

Ensure that every student in your K-8 cohort achieves their weekly learning targets, demonstrates mastery of each life skill, and finishes the year expressing genuine affection for you.

Basic Requirements

  • Available to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR (relocation assistance provided)
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (classroom instruction, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program management)
  • A concrete example you can articulate of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging goal: the objective, your actions, and the result
  • Comfortable allowing AI to manage instructional content while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills development
  • Authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Background in youth sports coaching, debate, camp leadership, theater, or after-school programs where you held direct accountability for motivating children toward defined objectives
  • Demonstrated record of high personal achievement (academic, athletic, or professional), indicating that maintaining rigorous standards for others is consistent with your character, not performative
  • Narrative ability and commanding presence sufficient to engage a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice
