Student Success Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

Crossover
Elgin, IL Full Time
POSTED ON 6/29/2026 CLOSED ON 7/25/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Success Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?

AI can teach a six-year-old how to read. Making her want to is your responsibility.

Alpha students in grades K-3 complete academic learning through AI-powered applications during a two-hour daily session. As a Guide, you oversee a single cohort band—K-1 (Kindergarten through 1st grade) or 2-3 (2nd through 3rd grade)—and adjust your approach, tempo, and workshop design to match that group. There are no lectures or worksheets. You spend half of each day facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops focused on public speaking, attention, and feedback exchange. A playbook is provided, but effective Guides modify it for their cohort and create new content where gaps exist. During the remaining half, you conduct 1:1 or small-group sessions, analyze Coachbot data, and guide each student toward 100% completion of weekly app objectives. Building trust gives you permission to challenge them. Challenging them demonstrates your confidence in their ability.

You succeed in a quarter when all students complete their weekly app targets, pass the Test2Pass for every life-skills workshop, and 90% or more report that they love you. Falling short on any of these three means the job was not fulfilled. Your first year is spent mastering the playbook; after you demonstrate you can maintain the standard, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available, where you mentor new Guides while continuing to run your cohort.

If you prefer traditional classroom teaching, expect a ready-made curriculum, or view warmth and rigor as contradictory, this role is not suitable. If your background includes early-elementary teaching with strong circle-time skills, camp counseling for young children, youth sports coaching, or children's theater performance, the final interview stage involves a shadow day coaching actual Alpha students. Submit your application today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-3 cohorts on topics including public speaking, attention, feedback, and other enduring competencies, customizing the playbook for your group rather than delivering it verbatim.
  • Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching sessions that maintain every student's trajectory toward weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's reward structures (school currency, leaderboards), and the personal connection you establish with each child.
  • Delivering the Test2Pass, Alpha's mastery assessment, for each life skill, and providing coaching to students who do not initially pass until mastery is achieved.
  • Engaging kindergarteners through songs, narratives, physical activity, and playfulness while simultaneously holding second and third graders accountable to concrete, quantifiable expectations.
  • Serving as the caring adult children are excited to see at arrival AND the adult who will not permit them to underperform.

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Delivering instruction from the front of the room. Academic teaching is embedded in the applications, not delivered by you.
  • Creating curriculum materials from the ground up. Alpha supplies the playbook; your role is to execute it with fidelity and energy.
  • Passively monitoring children at screens. Motivation in this role is hands-on, individualized, and continuous.
  • Adjusting a weekly target downward so a child can meet it. When a student falls behind, the solution is supporting the student, not reducing the goal.
  • Grading assignments, facilitating standardized test preparation, or handling parent outreach. Campus Leads manage family communication, and the other tasks do not exist in this model.

Student Success Coach Key Responsibilities

Guarantee that every student in your K-3 cohort completes their weekly learning objectives, achieves mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year reporting that they loved you.

Basic Requirements

  • Willing to work on-site at an Alpha campus in La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Monica, or South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, Miami Beach, or Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; or Boston, MA (relocation support provided).
  • Bachelor's degree in any subject.
  • At least 3 years working directly with children ages 4 to 9 (early-elementary teaching, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program leadership).
  • A specific example you can describe of motivating a young child to a hard goal: the goal, what you did, and the outcome.
  • Willingness to let AI handle the instructional content while you focus on motivation and life-skills coaching.
  • Willingness to hold high standards with students even when they push back.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship.

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Experience in youth athletics coaching, children's theater, camp leadership, Montessori/progressive early education, or after-school programs where you were directly responsible for motivating young kids toward specific goals.
  • Personal history of high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional), such that holding others to a hard bar is a pattern, not a posture.
  • Natural performer's presence with little kids: the ability to hold a room of kindergarteners through voice, silliness, and movement.
  • Track record of turning shy or resistant little kids into confident, active participants.
