What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Learning Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- $120,000 annual W2 salary with weekly pay, plus medical, dental, and vision coverage starting day one
- On-site role at an Alpha campus located in Malibu, CA; San Francisco, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Boston, MA; New York City, NY; or Miami Beach, FL (relocation assistance available).
Students carry untapped potential they don't yet see in themselves. When faced with struggle, many adults ease up. You lean in. You understand that real confidence doesn't come from empty encouragement—it emerges when someone achieves what once seemed out of reach. If you've ever pushed a student, athlete, camper, or mentee to persist when they wanted to give up, this work will resonate.
Alpha has redesigned education with a core principle: AI excels at academic delivery, while exceptional people excel at transformation. Students move through foundational academics via adaptive, AI-driven learning platforms. Your role is developing what technology cannot—ownership, grit, clarity, communication, focus, and the conviction that hard things matter. You won't fill your day writing lesson plans or grading assignments. Instead, you'll coach students through obstacles, acknowledge meaningful growth, and guide them toward accomplishments they once doubted.
Roughly 60% of your time involves facilitating dynamic, one-hour life skills sessions covering areas such as leadership, public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback. About 30% is dedicated to individual and small-group coaching, leveraging Coachbot analytics to pinpoint students needing motivation, accountability, or adjusted tactics. The final 10% goes toward analyzing data, refining coaching methods, and setting students up for stronger performance ahead. You'll begin with established workshop structures, then iterate and enhance them as you uncover more effective ways to engage.
Performance is measurable. At least 90% of your students should routinely meet weekly academic targets, show mastery of Alpha's life skills via Test2Pass evaluations, and rate their experience with you at 4 out of 5 or higher. Sustain that benchmark and you'll advance to Lead Guide, mentoring fellow Guides, and ultimately to Campus Lead, where you'll define the ethos and outcomes of an entire campus.
This position is not designed for those who prefer to lecture, stick rigidly to syllabi, or occupy students with busywork. It's built for coaches, mentors, youth leaders, performers, tutors, and educators who define success by student transformation. Every finalist completes a full day of coaching live Alpha students before an offer is extended. If that feels more compelling than another standard interview, let's connect.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating engaging, one-hour life skills sessions for K-8 students that build communication, grit, focus, leadership, and other lasting competencies while refining the workshop model over time.
- Providing one-on-one and small-group coaching informed by Coachbot analytics, customized accountability, and Alpha's motivational frameworks to ensure every student reaches challenging weekly targets.
- Evaluating life skill proficiency using Test2Pass and delivering focused coaching until each student shows true capability, not mere attendance.
- Tailoring your approach for elementary and middle school learners, recognizing when younger students need energy and affirmation versus when older students require candid accountability.
- Reviewing weekly performance metrics to spot trends, clear roadblocks, and drive continuous improvement across your student group.
- Teaching traditional academic content. AI manages subject instruction, freeing you to concentrate on student development.
- Scoring assignments, drafting curriculum, or prepping students for standardized exams.
- Supervising students as they quietly complete computer-based work. Your days are active, dynamic, and coaching-centric.
- Seeking permission before supporting a student in need. You have the authority to respond immediately and effectively.
- Handling parent outreach or administrative tasks. Campus Leads manage family communication so your attention stays on students.
Cultivate a student cohort that reliably meets ambitious academic milestones, demonstrates mastery of core life skills, and builds the confidence, perseverance, and self-direction to thrive well beyond their time at Alpha.
