Alpha students don't passively absorb lectures. They advance through academics using AI-driven adaptive software at their individual pace, frequently mastering an entire grade level within weeks. Your role covers everything the software cannot: guiding students through challenges, teaching them how to provide feedback, holding them to standards they didn't believe they could reach, and creating an environment where they want to show up every day. You'll facilitate interactive life skills workshops covering public speaking, concentration, and time management, followed by motivational sessions designed to inspire genuine engagement rather than mere compliance.
This is not a traditional classroom environment. You'll guide a small K-12 student cohort who know you personally. You'll monitor their development using Coachbot analytics, identify when someone encounters obstacles, and teach them problem-solving strategies. When 100% of your students achieve their weekly targets and 90% provide high ratings in surveys, you'll see evidence that the model succeeds because you executed it effectively.
Guides who excel with their cohort advance to Lead Guide positions—mentoring other Guides and influencing how an entire campus fulfills Alpha's mission. Alpha continues expanding to new campuses, and those who establish excellence standards today become the architects of tomorrow's growth. If you've never explored education careers but believe you can transform a child's future, this role turns that conviction into action. Apply today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for K-12 students covering topics such as public speaking, concentration, and providing feedback: interactive, project-driven sessions where you engage actively, not lecture passively
- Guiding a small student cohort daily, leveraging Coachbot analytics and student profiles to establish personalized goals, monitor app progress, and challenge every student to advance
- Creating and administering mastery-based assessments (Test2Pass) to confirm students genuinely acquired the skill, not merely attended the session
- Building individual relationships with students: discovering their interests, identifying what drives each one, and adjusting your methods accordingly
- Maintaining high performance standards: 100% of students reaching weekly goals, 90% student satisfaction ratings on your surveys
- Delivering academic instruction. Students master math, reading, and science through adaptive applications. You won't stand at a whiteboard teaching long division.
- Creating lesson plans from the ground up. Alpha supplies a life skills curriculum and implementation guides. Your responsibility is to execute them effectively, not develop them independently.
- Evaluating papers, conducting parent conferences, or overseeing standardized testing. There are no report cards to complete and no state test preparation to manage.
- Supervising kids passively while they use computers. When a student encounters difficulty, you coach them toward self-directed problem-solving. Passive oversight contradicts this role.
- Compromising standards when students resist. The motivational framework depends on maintaining high expectations, not creating exceptions when situations become challenging.
Guide a cohort of K-12 students who thrive in school, accelerate their learning through adaptive software, and develop life skills through dynamic workshops.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- At least 3 years of experience working directly with K-8 students (professional or structured volunteer roles such as coaching, camp counseling, or youth programs)
- Willing to work in-person at an Alpha School campus in one of these locations: Lake Forest (Orange County), CA; Piedmont, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA
- Legal right to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
- Background as an athletic coach, theater director, debate coach, or camp program coordinator where you inspired children to excel, not simply attend
- Documented history of personal high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional) that students and parents view as credible
- Confidence presenting to groups: the type of presence that commands attention from a room of twelve-year-olds without needing to raise your voice
- Experience with adaptive learning platforms or educational technology tools (e.g., Khan Academy, IXL, DreamBox)
