What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Excellence Coach, Alpha - $150,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-campus presence required at Alpha School locations in Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; San Francisco, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY
- $150,000 annual W2 compensation, distributed weekly. Full health benefits begin on day one.
- Relocation assistance available for candidates committing to a full school year at one campus
Alpha's model leverages AI-powered individualized instruction, enabling students to complete core academics in roughly two hours daily. The remaining time is allocated to life skills, passion projects, and meaningful development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments establish the benchmark: someone capable of assessing group dynamics, establishing expectations, and guiding students through resistance, lack of focus, and uncertainty.
Instruction is not your responsibility. The AI platform delivers academic content. Your responsibility is to inspire, coach, and enforce the same rigorous standards you have applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time involves direct one-on-one and small-group coaching that identifies obstacles and establishes challenging objectives. Another forty percent is spent facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for skill acquisition, not engagement for its own sake. The final twenty percent is dedicated to morning sessions that set daily expectations and cultivate a culture intolerant of mediocrity.
The trajectory here emphasizes deepening impact, not advancing into management. You begin by mastering Alpha's methodology and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person they allow to push them beyond self-imposed limits. The compensation is not upward mobility. It is continuity with the same students across years, guiding their development over time. It is witnessing a student transform from avoiding eye contact in September to confidently presenting to adults in May.
This position remains student-centered. Students are the purpose, not a means to career advancement. If your motivation to leave your current role is mission-driven rather than résumé-driven, submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Conducting one-on-one and small-group coaching sessions leveraging Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify barriers, establish ambitious objectives, and ensure accountability for execution
- Facilitating structured life-skills workshops focused on mastery, drawing on credible examples from your own elite achievements, and evaluating mastery through Alpha's Test2Pass assessment framework
- Establishing the performance culture each morning via focused kickoff sessions that communicate and reinforce high-expectation standards campus-wide
- Monitoring student progress continuously and modifying coaching approaches based on evidence rather than intuition
- Cultivating trusted mentoring relationships with students and their families through consistent high standards and documented motivational strategies
- Delivering lessons, creating curriculum, or evaluating assignments — Alpha's AI-driven academic system manages instruction; your focus is motivation
- Presenting to large classroom groups of 30 students (your work centers on intensive coaching with small groups, not mass instruction)
- Supervising other personnel or pursuing an administrative career path (this role prioritizes direct student outcomes, not organizational advancement)
- Attending faculty meetings or managing institutional bureaucracy (your schedule remains student-focused)
- Compromising standards to achieve targets (if a student reaches 99%, your role is to identify what prevented 100%)
Deliver exceptional student motivation, developmental growth, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's most demanding campuses.
