Literacy Program Coordinator, Alpha - $100,000/year USD

Crossover
Houston, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 6/6/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/1/2026
  • $100,000 annual salary, distributed weekly, including health, dental, and vision coverage effective from day one
  • Full-time on-site position at a single Alpha campus: Phoenix, AZ; Oklahoma City or Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, Fort Worth, Houston (South Houston or The Woodlands), or Plano, TX; Park City (Salt Lake City), UT; or Dorado, Puerto Rico (relocation assistance available)
  • 40-hour workweek spent entirely in the classroom with kindergarten through second-grade students

You have invested years developing expertise in structured literacy. Whether through Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading instruction, you can identify a phonemic gap from a single miscue and design a phonics lesson without any scripted materials. That competency is the baseline, not the differentiator.

What sets you apart is your ability to captivate young learners. At Alpha, this position is foremost a Guide role: a dynamic, magnetic presence that students genuinely enjoy working with. Your structured-literacy credentials open the door; your capacity to engage a K-2 classroom for a 20-minute workshop is what secures your hire. If being described as a compelling, energetic presence doesn't resonate, this opportunity is not the right fit.

Alpha has reimagined conventional instruction. Academic content is completed independently by students on AI-adaptive platforms — there are no lectures, no textbooks, and no pacing calendars. Your position represents the one domain where human expertise cannot be replaced. You build small-group reading workshops informed by live student performance data, and you facilitate motivation sessions designed to ensure 100% of students meet their weekly app targets using Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, gamification appropriate for the age group).

Your initial months focus on earning trust and engagement. Workshops must be enjoyable, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective. Student satisfaction metrics and "love your Guide" survey results (goal of 90% or higher) provide direct feedback. Once you establish credibility, your responsibilities expand: analyzing AI-generated performance data to refine upcoming instruction, communicating fluency improvements and decoding progress to families, and contributing to the evolution of Alpha's K-2 reading strategy in tandem with adaptive technology. As Alpha opens additional campuses, your work becomes the blueprint for reading instruction across the network.

Prior to an offer, you will submit a brief video presenting an engaging story for young children, and you will complete a full day on campus delivering direct instruction to K-2 students. Low energy with kids is disqualifying, regardless of credential strength. That is intentional. Apply today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Creating and facilitating small-group K-2 reading workshops rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or comparable), informed by actual student performance data
  • Facilitating daily motivation sessions to ensure 100% of students achieve their weekly adaptive-app objectives, applying Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, gamification suited to the age group)
  • Conducting and evaluating running records, fluency assessments, and decoding probes to monitor growth and refine instruction for subsequent sessions
  • Analyzing AI-generated performance metrics from Alpha's adaptive learning platforms to differentiate instruction dynamically, not only during advance planning
  • Serving as the approachable, energetic adult presence your K-2 students are excited to see each day

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Implementing a commercially published reading curriculum, scripted lesson sequence, or district-mandated pacing guide; you create lessons directly from student data
  • Delivering whole-class lectures; all instruction occurs in small, targeted groups while students complete academic subjects through adaptive apps
  • Serving as a reading consultant, teacher coach, or district-level specialist; your daily work is in the classroom with students
  • Managing a traditional classroom schedule — subject-by-subject lectures, homework correction, test preparation; your time is allocated to workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small groups
  • Grading homework assignments or completing report cards; student advancement is tracked via app data and your running records

Literacy Program Coordinator Key Responsibilities

Provide structured-literacy instruction that produces measurable acceleration in K-2 reading performance across phonics, fluency, and decoding domains.

Basic Requirements

  • Certification in structured literacy (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
  • Bachelor's degree in any field, combined with at least 2 years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment, employing systematic phonics or structured literacy
  • Proven capability to independently design reading lessons and clearly explain instructional content and methodology, without dependence on a published program
  • Availability to work full-time in person at one Alpha campus: Phoenix, AZ; Oklahoma City or Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, Fort Worth, Houston (South Houston or The Woodlands), or Plano, TX; Park City (Salt Lake City), UT; or Dorado, Puerto Rico (relocation assistance available)
  • Willingness to instruct all K-2 students (not exclusively struggling readers) and to incorporate AI and adaptive-learning technologies into everyday instruction
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States or Puerto Rico without need for visa sponsorship
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish required for the Dorado, Puerto Rico campus

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Practical experience using AI-powered or adaptive reading platforms (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student data interpretation
  • Documented record of measurable reading outcomes (fluency gains in WCPM, accuracy improvements, decoding level progression) you can quantify specifically
  • Experience in non-traditional or innovative educational settings (charter, micro-school, Montessori, hybrid)
  • Experience in performing, coaching youth sports, or otherwise engaging a K-2 audience outside a formal reading classroom
