Literacy Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

Crossover
Greenwich, CT Full Time
POSTED ON 7/28/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/18/2026
  • $120,000 annual salary, paid weekly, including health, dental, and vision coverage from day one
  • Full-time on-site at a single Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • 40 hours per week, 100% classroom-based with K-3 students

Your structured-literacy credential—Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading instruction—has opened the door to every K-3 reading position you've pursued. In most roles, it also represented the upper limit: you executed an existing program and documented results. At Alpha, the credential is your entry point. If that difference resonates with you, read on.

Alpha has redesigned traditional instruction from the ground up. Students advance through academic content independently using AI-adaptive applications. No lectures, no textbooks, no district pacing guides. Your role occupies the one space where human expertise cannot be replaced. You create 20-minute small-group workshops using real-time app data; sessions are deliberately brief because targeted precision outweighs duration. You also facilitate motivation sessions designed to ensure 100% of students reach their weekly app targets through Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification). When you catch a student's miscue during a session, you identify the phonemic weakness and redesign the next day's workshop before you leave. That is the expectation.

Families selecting these campuses have chosen Alpha for measurable outcomes, not simply enrollment. Parents receive weekly updates on their child's reading progress and arrive with questions. You will field specific inquiries about individual student advancement, and vague reassurances will not suffice. You must reference the running record, identify the phonemic deficit, and detail your instructional response. This accountability should energize you, not burden you.

Your initial months focus on establishing credibility in the classroom. Workshops must be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective; student satisfaction and "love your Guide" survey results (target: 90% ) provide direct measurement. Once you've proven your approach, your influence extends beyond your own students: successful strategies in your classroom become templates for adoption across other Alpha campuses, and your diagnostic precision informs how reading instruction evolves as Alpha scales. Your work extends well beyond your immediate environment.

Before an offer is extended, you will submit a short video in which you tell an engaging story for young children, and you will spend a full day on campus working directly with K-3 students. Low energy with children will disqualify you, regardless of credential strength. This is intentional. Apply today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Creating small-group K-3 reading workshops based on live adaptive-app data, anchored in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or equivalent)
  • Leading daily motivation sessions that drive 100% of students to meet weekly app goals through Alpha's motivational model (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification)
  • Analyzing AI-generated performance metrics (fluency curves, decoding accuracy, comprehension indicators) to modify instruction mid-day, not only during planning time
  • Conducting running records, fluency probes, and decoding assessments to generate gains documented in weekly campus data reviews
  • Serving as the engaging, energetic adult your K-3 students anticipate seeing every day

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Implementing a published reading curriculum, scripted program, or district pacing guide; you create lessons directly from student data
  • Delivering whole-class lectures; all instruction occurs in small, targeted groups while students complete academic subjects through adaptive apps
  • Serving as a reading consultant, teacher coach, or district-level specialist; you work in the classroom with students daily
  • Operating a traditional classroom schedule: subject-by-subject lectures, homework review, test preparation. Your blocks consist of workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small groups
  • Drafting IEPs, 504 plans, or formal diagnostic reports; student progress is tracked via app data and your running records, not special-education documentation

Literacy Coach Key Responsibilities

Generate measurable K-3 reading improvement across phonics, fluency, and comprehension within a campus environment where outcomes are assessed weekly.

Basic Requirements

  • Structured-literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
  • Bachelor's degree in any field, plus 2 years of full-time K-3 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical setting within the past 5 years, using systematic phonics or structured literacy
  • Proven capability to design original reading lessons and clearly articulate your instructional content and methods, independent of published programs
  • Availability to work in person full-time at one Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • Readiness to work with all K-3 students (not solely struggling readers) and incorporate AI and adaptive-learning tools into daily instruction as these tools develop
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Practical experience with AI-powered or adaptive reading platforms (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student data interpretation
  • Documented record of measurable reading outcomes (fluency gains in WCPM, accuracy improvement, decoding level progression) you can quantify
  • Familiarity with diagnostic reading assessments (DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) for creating differentiated instructional groups
  • Experience in high-accountability educational settings (independent schools, elite charter schools, premium tutoring with outcome-focused families)
  • Background in performance, youth sports coaching, or other contexts requiring you to engage a K-3 audience beyond the reading classroom
