What are the responsibilities and job description for the Learning Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position at an Alpha School campus (Chicago, IL
- Miami, FL
- Palo Alto, CA
- Piedmont, CA
- San Francisco, CA
- Santa Monica, CA
- Lake Forest, CA
- Greenwich, CT
- Boston, MA; relocation assistance available)
- Annual salary of $120,000, paid weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage from day one
- School-year calendar with predictable hours
Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Academic learning happens through adaptive software that individualizes pacing and content for each student. No lectures are delivered. No identical worksheets distributed to a class of 25. Instead, each child progresses through personalized learning platforms while you—their Guide—coach them through the challenging moments: maintaining focus when difficulty increases, working through frustration, and recognizing genuine mastery rather than mere participation.
Your day begins with motivation sessions: analyzing each student's progress within their learning apps, establishing daily targets, and identifying the appropriate motivator for each child. For some, it's a leaderboard. For others, school currency or a direct conversation about their potential. Afternoons transition to life skills workshops where you facilitate instruction in public speaking, concentration, and feedback skills through project-based, interactive activities. You'll administer mastery-based evaluations (Test2Pass) where students demonstrate internalization of skills, not just attendance. Throughout, you're guiding emotional regulation, building resilience, and teaching problem-solving through consistent structure paired with genuine warmth.
Guides who excel here advance to Lead Guide positions, mentoring Guide teams while continuing direct work with their own cohort. The progression from "I transformed these 15 students" to "I'm developing the team that transforms hundreds" is tangible and accessible. If traditional education never appealed to you, but you're convinced that what occurs between ages 4 and 7 determines everything after—submit your application.
What You Will Be Doing
- Conducting daily motivation sessions with K-2 students: analyzing Coachbot data, establishing individualized targets, and applying Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, one-on-one coaching) to achieve 100% goal attainment
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops covering public speaking, concentration, giving/receiving feedback, and time management through hands-on, project-based methods aligned with Alpha's curriculum playbook
- Guiding emotional regulation, resilience, and problem-solving in collaboration with Reading Specialists who provide literacy instruction
- Conducting Test2Pass mastery evaluations where students prove internalization of each life skill before progression
- Developing authentic connections with each student by understanding their passions, capabilities, and challenges so your coaching remains individualized rather than formulaic
- Standing at the front delivering lectures or teaching academic content. Academic learning occurs through adaptive applications, not direct instruction from you.
- Creating curriculum independently. Alpha supplies the life skills curriculum and lesson frameworks; your role is to execute them effectively.
- Advancing students who haven't shown mastery. If they reached 99%, you guide them to 100%.
- Supervising children passively as they use computers. Every moment is organized around active coaching, motivation, and skill development.
- Handling parent communications or campus-wide logistics. Those responsibilities belong to the Campus Lead.
Guide a cohort of K-2 students who are enthusiastic about school, progress through adaptive learning at double the conventional rate, and achieve mastery of critical life skills.
