What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Learning & Development, Alpha - $200,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- In-person positions available in: Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Piedmont, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Boston, MA; Bethesda, MD; Raleigh, NC; New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
- $200,000 annually, paid weekly | Full health, dental, and vision benefits from day one
Students at Alpha don't passively absorb lectures. They advance through adaptive applications at double the speed of conventional classrooms while simultaneously developing practical life competencies. Your role ensures three core commitments are delivered to every student in your group: they enjoy their educational experience, they progress twice as fast academically, and they gain capabilities no traditional textbook provides. You will also develop the Guides responsible for upholding these same commitments throughout your campus.
Data informs every choice, and every interaction happens in person. Your time divides between leading your own student group and coaching the Guides under your leadership — with identical expectations for both: tangible advancement, without compromise. When a Guide's session underperforms, you don't draft documentation; you observe directly, discuss immediately, and resolve it before the day ends.
You'll witness reserved students present with confidence to adult audiences. You'll see a child who previously "despised school" request additional time on campus. And you'll recognize that the standard you maintained is precisely what enabled their growth, because upholding expectations is how you demonstrate belief in someone's potential.
You may be building a campus from the ground up, establishing the foundational culture that will shape the school's identity. As operations mature, your role evolves from hands-on operator to coaching-focused leader, cultivating the team that expands Alpha's approach across your region.
If this opportunity appeals to you, submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour in-person life skills and social-emotional learning (SEL) sessions with students in grades K-8, covering topics such as public speaking and concentration, using Alpha's established framework
- Conducting daily motivational sessions designed to ensure 100% of students achieve their weekly application-based learning targets through age-appropriate incentive structures including school currency and competitive leaderboards
- Developing Guides through direct observation, specific feedback, and practical coaching to ensure they facilitate sessions with equivalent energy and execution quality
- Analyzing Coachbot data and individual student records to determine which students require additional support, then providing that intervention directly
- Directly mentoring your assigned student cohort, demonstrating the coaching and motivational techniques you require from all Guides
- Creating lesson plans or developing curriculum. Students progress through adaptive software; your responsibility is elevating the people who support them.
- Delivering traditional classroom lectures. Your role is approximately 80% facilitation and engagement, 20% content expertise; if traditional instruction appeals to you, this role will not fit.
- Compromising standards due to external pressure from parents or campus leadership. When a student achieves 99%, the response remains "not yet" — and you'll receive institutional support to maintain that position.
- Spending your day in administrative tasks or paperwork review. The majority of your time involves direct interaction with students and Guides.
- Delaying performance conversations for scheduled reviews. Performance data is accessible in real-time through Coachbot, and course corrections occur immediately.
Ensure Alpha's 3 Promises are fulfilled for both your student cohort and the Guides under your leadership: every student enjoys their educational experience, progresses academically at twice the standard pace, and develops genuine life competencies.
