Camp Director, Alpha - $200,000/year USD

Crossover
Stamford, CT Full Time
POSTED ON 7/25/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/19/2026
  • On-site role at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY, or Miami, FL — support for relocation is available
  • Annual compensation: $200,000
  • Full-time position

When students struggle, most schools lower the bar. Your approach is different.

You hold a conviction that young learners can achieve far more than traditional classrooms demand, and you've led teams that validate this belief through tangible outcomes. You understand that accountability, motivation, and rigorous standards transform lives in ways no additional worksheet can replicate.

At Alpha, core academics are completed within two morning hours using adaptive learning technology. This structure allows you to concentrate on what drives lasting impact: guiding students toward independent learning while cultivating the Guides who enable that transformation. You will take ownership of outcomes for a K-3 cohort, leveraging data, direct observation, and targeted coaching to ensure every child enjoys school, learns at twice the typical pace, and builds strong life skills.

This role is neither instructional coach nor traditional principal. You won't find yourself consumed by endless meetings or administrative tasks. Instead, you'll be present in classrooms, evaluating both student and Guide performance, leading workshops on focus, resilience, communication, and accountability, and coaching children and adults alike toward documented progress.

Your impact will extend beyond your immediate cohort. You'll capture proven methods, create playbooks that elevate schoolwide standards, and contribute to how Alpha trains future Guides. If you're motivated by developing people, replicating excellence, and demonstrating that exceptional results are achievable when standards remain high, we want to hear from you.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Use performance data, classroom observations, and clear feedback to coach Guides and students toward measurable gains.
  • Design and deliver dynamic workshops for K-3 students covering communication, resilience, focus, collaboration, accountability, and additional life skills.
  • Conduct one-on-one and small-group coaching that links student motivation with academic progress and self-sufficiency.
  • Develop and iterate on repeatable coaching playbooks that elevate Guide team performance.
  • Mentor and train Guides while demonstrating exemplary coaching and facilitation daily.

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Providing traditional classroom lectures or teaching academic content directly; adaptive technology manages core instruction.
  • Handling discipline through punitive measures or reducing expectations when challenges arise.
  • Operating from behind a desk rather than engaging daily with students and Guides.
  • Taking responsibility for campus operations, budgets, or parent outreach; your priority is people development and outcome improvement.
  • Adhering to standard elementary school conventions simply because "that's the way it's always been done."

Camp Director Key Responsibilities

Fulfill Alpha's three core promises for every K-3 student by cultivating high-performing Guides, highly motivated learners, and a coaching culture that reliably delivers outstanding academic and life outcomes.

Basic Requirements

  • Available to work on-site at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY or Miami, FL; relocation support is available
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Business, Child Development, Organizational Leadership, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with elementary-aged children (roughly ages 5-9).
  • Proven experience leading teams of five or more, including hiring and performance management responsibilities.
  • History of building, launching, or substantially expanding a program, school, team, or initiative—not simply sustaining an existing structure.
  • Confirmed success leveraging data and measurable outcomes to enhance team or student performance.
  • Enthusiasm for questioning traditional education models and adopting a coaching-centered methodology.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with dashboards, analytics, or performance metrics to support ongoing improvement.
  • Proven experience coaching adults to achieve measurable performance gains.
  • Experience in youth development, competitive coaching, enrichment programs, camps, or other high-expectation settings.
  • Confident public speaking and facilitation abilities with young children.
