What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Counselor - Part-Time, Alpha - $30,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site: Alpha Schools, Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ
- $30/hr | 15–30 hrs/week | Full-time option: $60,000/year benefits
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM (flexible scheduling within school hours)
Alpha operates a compressed K-12 model: tightly scheduled, faster-paced than conventional schools, and centered on a Guide whose sole focus is teaching. This structure depends on someone managing the operational foundation — keeping transitions punctual, ensuring materials are staged before instruction begins, and addressing student engagement before minor distractions escalate into disruptions.
You step into full responsibility from day one. There's no ramp-up period. You'll be scanning the room, implementing Alpha's approved motivational strategies (positive reinforcement, structured cues, immediate redirection), and staging each activity so the Guide can begin teaching without delay. When executed correctly, a drifting student returns to task before the lesson loses momentum. Performance expectations are explicit: 95% of transitions completed on time, materials prepped ahead of every lesson, sustained student engagement maintained.
As you gain fluency in Alpha's system, your responsibilities expand. Assistants who demonstrate mastery of operational execution earn broader classroom authority — and for candidates with the right aptitude, the progression to Guide is straightforward. Apply now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Managing student transitions between activities (approximately 30% of your role): tracking time, cueing students to shift, and using positive reinforcement to ensure movement stays organized and on schedule
- Staging classroom materials ahead of each lesson by collecting supplies, arranging them according to the activity plan, and verifying setup aligns with the Guide's specifications before teaching starts
- Supporting student engagement during structured activities (approximately 40% of your role) by observing participation, catching disengagement early, and redirecting students through Alpha-approved classroom management methods without disrupting instruction
- Observing from the back of the room until issues surface — this position demands active involvement and continuous decision-making throughout the day
- Creating lessons, drafting activity plans, or owning academic results (those belong to the Guide)
- Improvising your own behavioral strategies; Alpha's motivational framework is standardized and you'll execute it consistently
- Handling facility maintenance, carpool coordination, or evening programming; your focus is classroom operations during school hours
Maintain Alpha's classroom operations so Guides remain fully concentrated on teaching.
