What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Success Coach, Alpha - $150,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site at Alpha School locations: New York City, NY
- Orange County (Lake Forest), CA
- San Francisco, CA
- Santa Barbara, CA
- $150,000/year compensation, distributed weekly. Full health benefits begin day one.

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1:1 instruction so students complete core academics in roughly two hours daily. The remainder of the day opens up for life skills, passion projects, and meaningful development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments model what's possible: someone who can assess group dynamics, establish expectations, and guide them through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.
Your role isn't instruction; it's coaching, challenging, and holding students to the same exacting standard you've applied to yourself. Roughly 80% of your time goes to direct 1-on-1 sessions, small-group coaching, and life-skills facilitation. The remaining 20% involves setting the daily standard: purposeful morning sessions that build a culture where average isn't acceptable.
The trajectory here isn't oriented toward management. It's about going deeper. You begin by mastering Alpha's framework and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person they allow to stretch them beyond their perceived limits. The payoff isn't a title. It's witnessing a student who avoided eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to adults in May.
If you've been searching for a way to leverage your elite experience beyond personal achievement, submit your application now. If you require scripted lessons, predictable structure, or a route to administrative leadership, this isn't the right fit.
What You Will Be Doing
- Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching that identifies specific obstacles, establishes ambitious targets, and enforces accountability for execution
- Facilitating structured life-skills sessions designed for genuine mastery, not engagement alone, drawing on credible examples from your own high-achievement background
- Evaluating student progress using tools like Test2Pass and monitoring analytics through Coachbot to refine coaching approaches on the fly
- Establishing the campus culture each morning with focused kickoff sessions that reinforce high-performance standards
- Cultivating trusted relationships with students and their families through unwavering standards, reliability, and documented motivation frameworks
- Creating lesson plans, developing curriculum, or evaluating assignments. Alpha's instructional model addresses that independently.
- Teaching a class of 30 students at once. Your focus is intensive coaching in small settings, not mass instruction.
- Supervising other employees or pursuing an administrative career path. This position centers on direct student outcomes, not organizational management.
- Attending lengthy faculty meetings or dealing with institutional red tape. Your schedule remains dedicated to students.
- Compromising standards to meet quotas. If a student achieves 99%, your task is identifying what prevented 100%.
Lead outstanding student motivation, development, and life-skill acquisition at Alpha's most demanding campuses.
