What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dog Training Assistant position at Crossbones Dog Academy?
Crossbones Dog Academy is Providence's premier dog training & daycare facility. We're growing! As a result, we're looking for a full-time dog training assistant (32-40 hours per week) who wants to make dog training their career. Our dog training assistants supervise playgroups, care for dogs, keep our facility clean and welcoming, and complete training sessions for the dogs enrolled in our daytime programs.

Responsibilities:
- Train dogs individually in manners training sessions (indoors and outdoors), following our dog training curriculum
- Supervise playgroups of 3-15 dogs (indoors and outdoors, in all weather), either solo or with another attendant (1 staff member per 10 dogs in playgroup)
- Use positive reinforcement to reward good behavior, and gently redirect undesirable behavior
- Capture photos and videos of dogs at play for our social channels
- Clean up after dogs, prepare and distribute meals and food-dispensing toys, and provide individual potty breaks
- Update behavior reports and communicate observations to the team
- Help keep our facility clean and organized
- Work closely with the team in person, via walkie talkies, and through Slack for seamless care and support
Requirements:
- At least 12 months of paid employment history working 20 hours per week with animals, preferably dogs (management references required)
- Open availability for full-time (8 to 10 hour) shifts, Monday through Friday (all 5 days), between 6:40AM-6:30PM
- Passion to learn more about teaching dogs and their owners
- Consistent punctuality; must arrive on time for each scheduled shift
- Maintain a strong attendance record, as consistent presence is critical for the safety and well-being of the dogs
- Strong communication skills and a positive attitude
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1 year experience supervising off-leash dog play
- Pet First Aid/CPR certification
- Experience using clicker training and positive reinforcement dog training
- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
