Director of Facilities

The Director of Facilities at Cross Schools plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and well-maintained operation of the school's physical plant and grounds. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of facilities management, including maintenance, repairs, renovations, and vendor management. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, a commitment to excellence, and alignment with the Christian values and mission of the school. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Facilities Management:

• Develop and implement comprehensive facilities management plans to ensure optimal functionality and safety of school buildings, grounds, and equipment. 
• Schedule and oversee regular inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. 
• Coordinate and prioritize maintenance and repair projects, including HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, and general building maintenance. 

Vendor Management:

• Identify, contract, and manage relationships with external vendors and contractors for facilities-related services, ensuring quality of work and cost-effectiveness. 
• Negotiate contracts and service agreements, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints and school policies. 

Supervision of Facilities Staff:

• Lead and supervise facilities staff, including maintenance technicians, custodial teams, and groundskeepers. 
• Establish clear expectations, provide training and professional development opportunities, and conduct performance evaluations for direct reports. 

Budget Oversight: 

• Assist the Head of Finance and Operations in developing and managing the facilities budget. 
• Monitor expenses, manage procurement processes, and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or safety. 

Emergency Preparedness:

• Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures, ensuring readiness to address emergencies such as natural disasters, power outages, and other crises. 

Compliance and Safety: 

• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to facilities management, occupational safety, and environmental standards. 
• Promote a culture of safety among staff and students, conducting regular safety drills and training sessions as required. 

Stewardship of Resources: 

• Uphold the school's commitment to environmental sustainability and stewardship of resources through efficient use of energy, water, and materials. 
• Implement initiatives to enhance the aesthetic and functional aspects of school facilities in alignment with the school's mission. 

• Proven experience (5 years) in facilities management, preferably in an educational or nonprofit environment. 
• Strong technical knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), grounds maintenance, and general facility operations. 
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team. 
• Budget management experience, including budget development, monitoring, and cost control. 
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices in facilities management and safety.
