Senior HW/SW Systems Engineer

We are seeking a senior systems engineer to own requirements development, decomposition, traceability, verification strategy, and system acceptance for a complex hardware/software defense program. This person will connect customer needs to lower-level engineering requirements and ensure the design and test evidence support successful system sell-off.

The strongest candidate has led requirements and verification work across multidisciplinary hardware, software, design, and test teams, can work confidently in a controlled requirements database, and is comfortable presenting technical status to customer engineers and program leadership.

Schedule: First shift, Monday-Friday, 5/40 schedule

Work Setting: Onsite

Role Type: Contract

Contract Duration: Long-term renewable contract with extension or permanent-conversion potential

Contract Classification: All hours billed at straight time; no premium overtime

Pay Rate: $85.50-$101.00 per hour, depending on experience level and client approval

Responsibilities

• Capture and maintain the program requirements baseline in a controlled requirements database.
• Analyze and decompose Level 1 requirements into Levels 2 through 4 in partnership with engineering discipline leads.
• Maintain bidirectional requirements traceability and support formal configuration-management processes and control boards.
• Develop and execute the system requirements verification strategy.
• Coordinate with design and test leads to produce robust validation and verification plans, procedures, and qualification evidence.
• Ensure hardware/software systems meet performance and non-performance requirements and are ready for customer acceptance.
• Lead system-development, integration, troubleshooting, and process-improvement activities.
• Interface with customer scientists, engineers, and program managers.
• Communicate program status, risks, issues, and results through technical presentations and written reports.
• Support domestic travel of less than 10 percent as required.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen with an active DoD Confidential clearance at the time of hire.
• Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics and at least 10 years of relevant experience; an advanced related degree and at least 7 years of experience; or at least 14 years of relevant experience without a degree.
• Senior-level systems engineering experience on integrated hardware/software systems.
• Hands-on experience with requirements analysis, development, decomposition, baselining, maintenance, and traceability.
• Experience developing verification strategies and coordinating qualification or acceptance testing.
• Ability to work onsite in Middletown, Rhode Island.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical leadership experience as a lead engineer or senior systems engineer.
• IBM DOORS or comparable requirements-management database expertise.
• Experience building and maintaining requirements traceability matrices.
• Experience participating in or supporting configuration control boards.
• Defense, Navy, undersea, maritime, sensor, mission-system, or command-and-control program experience.
• Customer-facing technical leadership across design, integration, and test teams.
