Middle School Industrial Tech & PLTW Educator: Architect of Innovation

Location: Cross Keys Middle School (7th-8th)

Year: 2026-2027 School Year

The Opportunity: Building the Future, One Project at a Time

In our middle schools, the Industrial Technology lab is the ultimate "Think Tank." We are looking for a dynamic, visionary educator to lead our Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Gateway courses. You aren't just teaching students how to use tools; you are teaching them the Engineering Design Process. From 3D modeling and automation to structural integrity and robotics, you are the mentor who turns a student’s "What if?" into a physical reality.

As part of the FFSD "New Chapter," you will lead a high-tech, hands-on environment where "failing forward" is celebrated as part of the creative process. If you are ready to inspire the next generation of engineers, architects, and master tradespeople, your next chapter starts here.

Role Summary

As a Middle School Industrial Technology and PLTW Teacher, you will inspire and support students in reaching their academic and technical goals. You will deliver high-quality, project-based instruction using the PLTW Gateway curriculum (such as Design & Modeling or Automation & Robotics). Working in a supportive, student-centered environment, you will empower every scholar to use technology, math, and science to solve complex, real-world problems through hands-on construction and digital design.

Why You’ll Succeed (Qualifications)

  • Certified Professional: Valid Missouri Teaching Certification in Industrial Technology (5-9) preferred or any Middle School teaching certificate requried.
  • PLTW Certified: Completion of (or willingness to complete) Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Core Training is required (this will be paid by the district).
  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree, required; Master’s degree, preferred.
  • The "Maker" Mindset: You are comfortable with both traditional hand tools and modern tech like 3D printers, laser cutters, and robotics kits.
  • Equity Champion: You are committed to ensuring that all students—especially those from underrepresented groups in STEM—see themselves as capable and brilliant innovators.

Your Impact (Key Duties)

  • Lead the Lab: Design and facilitate engaging PLTW modules that challenge students to design, prototype, and test their own inventions.
  • Foster Computational Thinking: Guide students through introductory coding and automation, helping them understand how software and hardware interact.
  • Safety & Craftsmanship: Maintain a safe, organized, and professional lab environment where students learn the value of precision, safety protocols, and high-quality work.
  • Collaborate for Success: Partner with Math and Science teachers to highlight the interdisciplinary nature of the STEAM mindset.
  • Career Exploration: Help 7th and 8th graders discover the vast array of career pathways available in engineering, manufacturing, and the skilled trades.

Your Leadership Partners

  • Primary Support: Building Principal
  • Instructional Support: District CTE Coordinator

The Logistics of Your Success

  • Classification: Exempt, Certified Staff
  • Work Year: 10-Month Academic Calendar (187 Contract Days)
  • Salary: Based on the Teacher Salary Schedule, determined by experience and education level.
  • Benefits: Full-time Eligibility (Medical, Dental, Vision, & PSRS/PEERS Retirement).
