The Opportunity
This is a junior, apprentice style position ideal for someone who is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and eager to learn. As an Equipment Operator, you will assist with and progressively operate the travel lift, forklifts, trucks, and trailers used to haul, launch, and move boats around the boat yard. Prior experience is helpful but not required, and we are willing to train the right person via certification and experiential learning.
Responsibilities
- Assist with and operate the travel lift, forklifts, trucks, and boat trailers to haul, launch, and move vessels.
- Ground guide, position and secure boats safely for lifting, blocking, and storage.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks.
- Support blocking and securing boats on stands and cribbing.
- Assist with general yard operations and boat movement as needed.
- Support other departments as required with moving material and pallets.
- Follow all safety procedures when working around heavy equipment and suspended loads.
- Keep work areas organized and report any equipment issues promptly.
- Take on additional responsibilities as skills develop.
Qualifications
- Willingness to learn and strong focus on safety.
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort operating heavy machinery.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Dependable, able to follow directions, and prioritize safety at all times.
- Comfortable with ladders, PPE, lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, and working around heavy equipment.
- Experience operating various vessel types between 13' - 50' preferred but not required.
- CDL and/or Massachusetts 1B Hoisting License preferred but not required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
