Primary Purpose:
Evaluate and provide leadership for the overall instructional program of the district for secondary education
Responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Curriculum and Instruction Department for secondary education
Qualifications:
Experience in instructional leadership roles
Education/Certification:
Master’s Degree or higher
Valid Texas Mid-Management Certification
Texas Teaching certificate required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of state mandates for accountability
Experience in curriculum development, analysis and delivery using effective formative
assessment strategies
Working knowledge of special programs specifically, GT and Special Education.
Knowledge and skills relative to traditional and new pedagogical theories, applications, and
processes which relate to effective teaching across the disciplines at all grade levels.
Knowledge in effective teaching strategies, peer coaching and mentoring skills
Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Eight years or more of successful education experience with at least three years
administrative experience at the building level or higher preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Direct instructional and curriculum programs to meet students’ needs in 6 – 12
Coordinate the implementation of all academic subjects
Plan, implement, and evaluate instructional programs with teachers and principals, including learning objectives,
instructional strategies, and assessment techniques
Work with coordinators to develop integrated and balanced curriculum and professional development at the secondary level
Develop goals and timelines to plan for school improvement and student achievement
Oversee the successful implementation of district initiatives at all secondary grade levels
Align curriculum that translates to achievement at the postsecondary level
Ensure the use of technology in the teaching-learning process
Apply research and data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching-learning process
Work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis
Involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs
Participate in the district-level decision-making process to establish and review the district’s goals and objectives and major
classroom instructional programs of the district
Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives (academic
excellence indicators)
Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program
effectiveness
Secure consultants, specialists, and other community resources to assist principals and instructional staff in attaining
objectives
Provide effective staff development activities that incorporate the mission of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and
input from teachers and others
Monitor results of the Milestone tests. Review the results with the building principals to identify strengths and weaknesses
with regard to a specific class/subject skill
Lead in the evaluation of instruction methods and programs and recommend, such changes and improvements as needed
Assist principals in the planning and implementation of effective programs of supervision and evaluation with regard to
classroom teaching
Engage in an ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the instructional program
Monitor results of testing programs, determine curriculum changes based upon the results of the tests and help principals to
identify strengths and weaknesses with regard to a specific class
Attend Board meetings upon request and prepare reports for the Board as requested by the Superintendent
Assist principals in coordinating and supervising summer school programs
Plan the necessary time, resources and materials to support the accomplishment of educational goals
Work with executive level administrators in the coordination of staff development programs to ensure a comprehensive
curriculum
Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness
Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Work with principals and coordinators to oversee the duties of instruction and staff development
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent district-wide and occasional statewide travel;
occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions
