Primary Purpose:
Oversee, and assist with building and maintaining Special Education Routes and Training for Gen. Ed. and Special Ed. Drivers and Aides that will afford a safe and efficient transportation system. Answer telephones & 2-Way Radio’s in an effort to communicate information to the community and department staff to ensure safe and efficient transportation services.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED
- TAPT Official Certification
- Certified as a Texas School Bus Driver
- Hold a CDL, class B minimum with a “P” & “S” Endorsement
- Must pass Annual State of Texas School Bus Driver Physical
- Must pass ALL Federal DOT Drug and Alcohol Test
- TEEX Certified School Bus Driver Trainer or equivalent
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to exercise judgement in decision making
- Knowledge of transportation routing software
- Ability to direct and schedule personnel
- Proficient typing, word processing, computer and file maintenance skills
- Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of school district organization and operations
- Knowledge of all aspects of Special Ed. Transportation
- Two years student transportation management or supervisory experience (preferred)
- Ability to train and teach others
- Two years bus driver training experience (preferred)
Experience:
- Five years of K-12 pupil transportation experience (preferred)
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Office Climate
- Attend ARD meetings
- Evaluate bus driver skills.
- Assist with Safety Meetings and In-service.
- Maintain bus driver credential records
- Demonstrate proper maintenance, care, storage and use of SPED equipment and materials.
- Maintain daily fleet mileage for the department for state reporting purposes.
- Compile and prepare correspondence, forms and reports for the department as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of information for the transportation department.
- Answer all incoming calls, take reliable messages & route calls to the appropriate staff.
- Operate Dispatch 2-Way Radio as primary communication link between community, transportation office and buses.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

- Assist in keeping the drivers updated of any changes in routes or procedures.
- Assist drivers with student management, including safety reports and video.

- Assist with administering the DOT drug and alcohol testing program

Departmental Improvement

- Assist the Assistant Director with the recommendation of sound policies directed toward program improvements.
Transportation Software
- Operate and maintain the transportation software program to provide correct information enhancing the departments’ operational efficiency.
- Generate and print route sheets.

- Belong to and take an active role in professional organizations pertaining to the position.

- Work with campus staff and administrators to ensure transportation services.

- Assist the Assistant Director with Transportation functions & other duties as assigned.
