SUMMARY

The Superintendent serves as the chief executive officer of the Crook County School District #1, providing leadership and oversight for all district operations, including instruction, personnel, finance, facilities, and community relations. The Superintendent is responsible for implementing Board policy, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, and promoting a high standard of educational excellence across all district schools in Moorcroft, Sundance, and Hulett, WY.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Superintendent reports directly to the Crook County School District #1 Board of Trustees.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Appreciates the worth and dignity of each individual and treats each one with respect and tolerance.
  2. Provides visionary leadership for the district, ensuring alignment of goals, objectives, and resources with the mission, vision and policies established by the Board of Trustees.
  3. Oversees instructional programs and student services to ensure equitable educational opportunities across all schools: Moorcroft K-6 and 7–12, Sundance K-6 and 7–12, and Hulett K–12.
  4. Recruits, supervises, and evaluates administrative staff, and delegates authority and responsibility appropriately to promote efficient operations.
  5. Oversees the evaluation of all other staff in accordance with District policy and the rules and regulations of the Wyoming Department of Education.
  6. Is responsible for personnel decisions including suspension, dismissal and termination or the recommendation thereof, in accordance with Board policy and state laws.
  7. Ensures that all personnel are supervised and evaluated in accordance with district policy and state law.
  8. Develops and recommends policies, long-range plans, and annual budgets to the Board of Trustees.
  9. Administers the district’s annual budget and ensures sound financial management and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  10. Oversees district facility operations, transportation, food services, and maintenance to ensure a safe, efficient, and supportive learning environment.
  11. Serves as the chief spokesperson for the district and maintains effective communication with staff, parents, students, community members, and state agencies.
  12. Provides the Board of Trustees with accurate and timely information needed to make informed decisions.
  13. Implements Board policy and keeps the Board informed on all district matters, including personnel, finance, curriculum, and operations.
  14. Monitors federal and state legislative and regulatory developments and ensures district compliance with applicable laws.
  15. Promotes continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making and professional development.
  16. Builds strong partnerships with community organizations, local governments, and other stakeholders to advance educational opportunities.
  17. Ensures district readiness for emergencies by overseeing crisis management planning, school safety protocols, emergency operations plans, and coordination with local law enforcement and emergency responders. Serves as the district’s representative in legal and contractual matters as authorized by the Board.
  18. Ensures effective communication among all district schools, the central office, and the community.
  19. Visits all schools on a regular basis.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned by the Board of Trustees.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  1. A Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Administration or a related field is preferred.
  2. Superintendent certification or endorsement is desirable, but not required to be employed as Superintendent in Wyoming.
  3. Proven experience in educational administration or leadership preferred (e.g., five years or more).
  4. Strong evidence of leadership, strategic planning, and operational management capabilities.

  2. Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

  5. Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, transparency, and equity.
  6. Ability to inspire trust and confidence among staff, students, and community members.
  7. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

 

This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
