The ideal Crane Service Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Manitowoc crawler cranes, including friction-driven models and hydraulic-driven models. This role ensures equipment reliability, operational safety, and adherence to OEM standards in both field and shop environments.
Hours: Tuesday – Saturday 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.

This role ensures equipment reliability, operational safety, and adherence to OEM standards in both field and shop environments.
Hours: Tuesday – Saturday 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.
Duties/ Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled maintenance (500-hour, 1000-hour, 2000-hour, etc.) on Manitowoc friction cranes and hydraulic cranes.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues; determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Maintain schedules for crane lubrication, service wire rope systems, boom hoist assemblies, undercarriage components, system pressure, flow, temperature, and fluid sampling programs.
- Utilize mechanical and hydraulic schematics to pinpoint failures.
- Report unsafe conditions, defects, or potential failures.
- Troubleshoot load indication, limit switches, and control systems on friction and hydraulic cranes.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections and assist operators with technical support.
- Accurately complete service reports, inspection forms, and work orders.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with customers and supervisors
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and labor hours.
- Communicate effectively with owners, inspectors, engineers, and company leadership.
- Ensure all maintenance complies with Manitowoc OEM standards and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and consumables.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Strong understanding of crane mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and load charts.
- Familiar with Manitowoc Service Manuals and Series II systems
- Competent in rigging, lifting, and safety practices per OSHA 1926 Subpart CC.
- Basic welding, fabrication, and machining skills a plus.
- Strong communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills required .
- Ability to successfully complete any specific safety or job training required.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet demand and deadlines.
- GED, High School diploma, or equivalent experience.
- Technical/vocational certification in diesel mechanics, hydraulics, or heavy equipment preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience servicing crawler cranes (Manitowoc experience highly preferred).
- NCCCO or equivalent Crane Service/Assembly certification preferred.
- OSHA 10/30 Hour Safety Certification preferred.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
- Exposure to construction and marine site dangers.
- Ability to work in small and/or enclosed spaces.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Operating machinery and/or power tools
- Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Work in extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
- Ability to respond quickly to sounds and noisy environments.
- Able to traverse all areas of the jobsite in all types of weather; this may require walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
