Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Buyer role based in Portsmouth, VA. The Buyer will manage the day-to-day purchasing of materials, equipment, and services to support marine construction, commercial diving, crane rental, and related operations. Daily responsibilities include sourcing and evaluating suppliers, requesting and comparing quotes, issuing purchase orders, and tracking deliveries to ensure on-time availability for active projects. The role will coordinate closely with project managers, operations, and accounting to confirm specifications, budgets, and schedule requirements. The Buyer will also maintain vendor records, monitor inventory levels, resolve order or billing discrepancies, and support continuous improvement of procurement processes and cost control.
Qualifications
- Procurement and sourcing skills, including supplier identification, quoting, negotiation, and purchase order management.
- Experience supporting construction, marine, industrial, or similar field operations through timely purchasing of materials, tools, and equipment.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, including recordkeeping, documentation, and attention to detail in contracts and invoices.
- Proficiency with purchasing or ERP systems and standard office software (e.g., spreadsheets, email, and document management).
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with vendors, project teams, and internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple requests, manage deadlines, and adapt to changing project needs in a fast-paced environment..
- Commitment to safety, ethical conduct, and compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Previous experience as a Buyer, Purchasing Agent, or similar role; experience in marine, construction, or industrial sectors is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or a related field is a plus.
