What are the responsibilities and job description for the Government Affairs Intern position at CRL Associates, Inc.?
CRL Associates is a Denver-based government affairs, public policy, land use and transportation firm advising businesses, nonprofits and a variety of organizations on complex issues before local governments throughout Colorado. Our seven-person team works at the intersection of policy, politics, community engagement and strategic advocacy, helping clients understand government, navigate public-policy issues and achieve results.
CRL is seeking a part-time intern (2-3 days per week) to work closely with our team and gain hands-on experience in government affairs and public policy. This is primarily an in-office position in Denver, with the ability to perform some hybrid/virtual work.
The intern will assist our team with:
- Monitoring and covering city council, county commission, agency and other public meetings;
- Researching legislation, regulations, public policy and emerging issues affecting CRL clients;
- Preparing meeting summaries, briefing materials, memos, presentations and other client documents;
- Tracking local government agendas, policy developments and political activity;
- Assisting with issue analysis, land use, transportation and community-engagement projects; and
- Supporting CRL’s team on active government affairs and public policy matters throughout Colorado.
We are looking for someone who is curious, dependable, detail-oriented and a strong writer, with an interest in government, politics, public policy, land use, transportation, communications or related fields. The position is particularly well suited for a college or graduate student interested in gaining practical exposure to how public policy and local government decision-making work in the real world.
Compensation: $20/hour. Part-time employees are eligible for paid sick leave in accordance with Colorado law.
