Role Description
The Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals to students and staff in
alignment with school policies, health regulations, and budgetary guidelines. This role ensures the
kitchen operates efficiently and safely while fostering a welcoming and respectful environment. The
Chef reports to the Director of Operations and collaborates with school leadership to support student
wellness and satisfaction.
Job Requirements
-Plan and prepare daily meals for students and staff, accommodating dietary restrictions and
preferences.
-Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant kitchen environment in accordance with health and
safety regulations.
-Order, receive, and inventory food and supplies while managing costs within budget.
-Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of quality ingredients.
-Supervise kitchen staff and volunteers, ensuring proper food handling and service standards.
-Collaborate with school leadership to plan menus for special events and celebrations.
-Monitor food waste and implement strategies for sustainability and cost-efficiency.
-Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal food service regulations.
-Maintain accurate records of meals served, inventory, and food safety logs.
-Support the school’s mission by fostering a positive dining experience for students.
-Uphold the Cristo Rey mission, vision and values
-Embrace school-wide systems and promote high standards of behavior
-Actively participate in professional development sessions
-Communicate professionally with peers, supervisors, parents and students
-Adhere to and lead by the professional guidelines as indicated in the staff handbook
-Assist as needed with school wide events
-Value and support the Corporate Work Study Program as a place of learning and growth for
students
-Know, teach and follow school-wide routines and procedures
-Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
-Proven experience as a chef or cook in a school, institutional, or commercial kitchen setting.
-Knowledge of food safety standards and kitchen sanitation practices.
-Ability to manage inventory, ordering, and budgeting.
-Strong organizational and time-management skills.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods.
-ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain.
-High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary training or certification preferred.
-Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in food service or culinary operations.
-Passion for serving youth and contributing to a mission-driven educational environment.
-Ability to work on a team that values humility, integrity, continuous improvement, and openness to
feedback.
