Through partnerships with corporations in the Chicagoland area, students work one day per week in an office environment. This educational model enables students to develop career readiness/leadership skills, cultivate a professional network, add real business value, and support the cost to attend a private, college-preparatory, Catholic high school.
Under the supervision of the Senior Partner Relations Manager of the Corporate Work Study Program, the Public Transportation Chaperone will assist in students’ transportation by chaperoning students to and on the train, reminding students of safety, and updating attendance records and documentation.
This is a seasonal position that follows the annual school calendar (the school year covers Mid-August through early June with school breaks and holidays per the school calendar). This position is only available Monday -Thursday mornings from 7:30am – 9:30am.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure student safety walking to and riding on the Pink Line.
- Ensure students exit the train at their designated stop.
- Explain safety procedures to students as needed, enforce rules of conduct and respond to emergencies, including the safe evacuation of students through emergency exits.
- Perform test runs of any regularly scheduled route, as needed, to be comfortable and confident on that route prior to transporting students to ensure familiarity.
- Maintain proper attendance records and student documentation.
- Communicate effectively with students and parents (as needed).
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Physical Demands:
- Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
- Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- Perform the act of bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
- Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds.
- Subject to drug and alcohol testing.
Qualifications:
- Possess a high school diploma or the equivalent.
- Demonstrate excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with students, staff, administration, parents, business partners and the community.
- Exercise good judgment and ability to work independently without direct supervision.
