Position Summary
Under the leadership of the Director of Surgical Services, the Phlebotomist – Non-certified is an active member of the department that provides pathology and laboratory studies and analysis for the medical and nursing staff. The Phlebotomist – Non-certified is responsible for the collection of blood samples from patients by venipuncture or micro techniques. The Phlebotomist – Non-certified facilitates the collection and transportation of laboratory specimens. This position will also help in the OR turning rooms over, stocking supplies, and any other task needed to help the OR flow during each day.

Essential Job Responsibilities
- Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with nursing logs and resolves discrepancies.
- Verifies patient using two unique forms of identification.
- Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
- Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic techniques, following department procedures, and observing isolation procedures.
- Maintains quality results by following department procedures and testing schedules.
- Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, or nursing station.
- Complies with all safety and infection control policies and practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
