Role Summary:
In close partnership with the Senior Analyst of Medical Malpractice Research and other members of the Patient Safety and Data Analytics teams, the Senior Risk Management and Patient Safety Specialist will focus on performing active surveillance of malpractice risk and patient safety intelligence across the industry (healthcare delivery, malpractice insurance, thought leadership entities) and comprehensive data analyses, and leveraging this information to develop actionable risk mitigation strategies that advance our mission to improve safety and reduce malpractice risk. Reporting to the Vice President of Patient Safety, this colleague will serve as both an internal consultant and subject-matter specialist, translating data insights into practical, relevant, and actionable risk mitigation recommendations and proposed initiatives. The Senior Risk Management and Patient Safety Specialist also will assist with training and mentoring other Patient Safety team members, including Program Directors, on how to leverage data optimally to develop insights and actionable risk mitigation approaches.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive data analyses (including malpractice claims), robust literature reviews, and industry review of best practices to identify and perform ongoing surveillance of key malpractice and safety trends and root causes.
- Synthesize information, including the data gleaned from the above activity, to develop summaries of actionable insights, recommendations, and strategies that improve patient safety, mitigate risk, and enhance loss prevention opportunities.
- Partner with internal CRICO teams and designated safety, risk, and quality leaders/liaisons at subscriber organizations to understand local contexts and data insights, and to align priorities.
- Design proposed risk mitigation initiatives (e.g., policies, interventions, educational programs) and roadmaps that are presented to CRICO leadership and subscriber stakeholders.
- Serve as a specialist in medical malpractice data, proactively contributing to quality and patient safety efforts to positively impact patient outcomes.
- Oversee the development of the Patient Safety Knowledge Management System. This system for CRICO’s Patient Safety team collects, curates, organizes, and analyzes data and insights from a variety of input channels. Administrative leadership, oversight and resources will be required to optimize and sustain this system.
- Collaborate with team members to develop abstract and manuscript proposals for conferences, journals, and internal publications to disseminate learnings and highlight outcomes.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- 5 years of experience in healthcare quality, patient safety, or clinical risk management.
- 3 years of experience and significant content knowledge in medical malpractice and/or safety data analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Public Health, Health Policy, Health Administration, Data Science, Nursing, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
- Proficient in data analysis and visualization (Excel, Tableau, Power BI).
- Familiarity with claims data, clinical workflows, and healthcare operations preferred.
- Experience in a complex healthcare environment interacting with executives, medical staff, nurses, etc.
- Credibility and understanding of the healthcare delivery side based on experience working in hospital/ambulatory setting.

- Advanced data literacy skills:
- Proficient in utilizing data analysis tools and methodologies to extract actionable insights, including the acquisition and management of data
- Proficiency extends to utilizing data to reinforce targeted messages tailored to specific audiences
- Capable of presenting the results of analyses and statistical information
