Principal Duties And Responsibilities
Client Care
- Provide direct care, supervision, and support to individuals with mental health needs.
- Assist individuals with daily living activities, personal care, and community integration.
- Support implementation of treatment and recovery plans under the guidance of clinical staff.
- Use de-escalation and crisis intervention strategies when needed.
- Promote a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment.
- Assist in supporting medication routines under the direction of nursing staff.
- Monitor and report changes in health, mood, or behavior to the clinical team.
- Maintain accurate daily notes and activity records.
- Communicate effectively with nurses, QMHPs, and program staff about individual progress.
- Participate in team meetings and trainings to enhance professional skills.
- Work alongside nurses, clinicians, and program managers to ensure coordinated care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred. Evidence of completion of 20 hours of didactic education in a program recognized or approved by the board.
- Registration: Must be registered (or eligible for registration) with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Behavioral Health Technician Assistant (BHT-A) per SB403 guidelines.
- Experience: Previous experience in human services, mental health, or residential care preferred but not required.
- Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Strong communication, patience, and compassion for individuals with behavioral health needs.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting and assisting during interventions.
