Hourly pay rate begins at $19.83 and is based on related job experience.
Crete Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for a head custodian to begin immediately.

Education Level and Certification:
- High school degree or GED.
- Custodial and light maintenance experience preferred.
- Experience in supervising and leading staff preferred.
- Must maintain at all times during employment an unrestricted motor vehicle operator’s license and a satisfactory driving record that meets requirements of Board policy.
Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks
- Direct and supervise activities of custodial staff to maintain cleanliness and prevent the spread of infections.
- Inspect work performed to ensure that it meets specifications and established standards.
- Plan and prepare employee work schedules.
- Perform or assist with cleaning duties as necessary.
- Investigate complaints about service and equipment and take corrective action.
- Coordinate activities with other departments to ensure that services are provided in an efficient and timely manner.
- Check equipment to ensure that it is in working order.
- Instruct and train staff in work policies and procedures, and the use and maintenance of equipment.
- Issue supplies and equipment to workers.
- Forecast necessary levels of staffing and stock at different times to facilitate effective scheduling and ordering.
- Inventory stock to ensure that supplies and equipment are available in adequate amounts.
- Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, transfers, and dismissals.
- Confer with staff to resolve performance and personnel problems, and to discuss District policies.
- Establish and implement operational standards and procedures for the departments supervised.
- Recommend or arrange for additional services, such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
- Recommend changes that could improve service and increase operational efficiency.
- Serve as a role model to all students.
- Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
- Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
- Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
- Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
- Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
- Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).
At-Will Position:
This position is an “at-will” position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee.
Essential Functions:
The essential functions of the Head Custodian position include: (1)
regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks
and performance responsibilities which require effective teaching and communication skills; and (3) the ability to perform the following identified physical requirements.
FLSA Status:
Exempt under the executive exemption, provided the Head Custodian supervises two or more FTE employees.
Executive exemption:
The primary duty of the employee is the management of a department or subdivision. The employee customarily and regularly directs the work of two or more other employees and has authority to hire or fire other employees or the employee’s recommendations as to hiring, firing, promotion or other change of status of other employees are given particular weight.
