What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Counselors position at Crestwood Day School & Camp?
The Camp Counselor is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing core and non-core programs and experiences for children in a small group setting. They will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group. The team member will provide high quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences for participants that focus on Crestwood's core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
The Activity Specialist is responsible for leading or assisting in leading a specific activity throughout the day. Lead specialists plan the curriculum, and order supplies in addition to teaching campers and showing counselors how to assist. Assistant specialists help teach campers, support the specialist, help set up and clean up.
DATES & HOURS
Monday, June 29, 2026 to Friday, August 21, 2026; Closed Friday, July 3rd and weekends. Additional days for staff orientation and staff training in June. Hours: 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM. Additional hours and compensation available. Lunch is included.
Responsibilities:
- Help implement and carry out a weekly schedule for your camp group.
- Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, sports, swimming, nature, songs, games, adventure, etc.
- Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
- Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
- Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Camp Leadership.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
- Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
- Attend orientations and training sessions.
Preferred Experience:
- We look for people with strong character and values plus high levels of self-motivation and enthusiasm.
- Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.

Work Conditions:
- Must be able to come to work on time on a daily basis.
- Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to running, swimming, team building initiatives, physical games, and activities.
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks outdoors in different climate.
