Overview
We are seeking a skilled Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive mechanical knowledge and experience in diagnosing and repairing a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, cranes, and farm machinery. This role requires a strong understanding of both electrical and hydraulic systems, as well as the ability to work with OEM specifications and schematics. The Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic will play a crucial role in ensuring that our fleet of vehicles and machinery operates efficiently and safely.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy construction equipment including excavators, cranes, forklifts, and agricultural machinery.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, brake repairs, tire service, and hydraulic system checks.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
- Interpret schematics for electrical systems and perform necessary repairs or modifications.
- Conduct assembly and fabrication tasks as required for equipment repair or enhancement.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs performed and parts used for inventory management.
- Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding equipment issues and repair timelines.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations while performing maintenance tasks in the shop or field.
- Collaborate with other technicians to complete complex repairs efficiently.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a mechanic with a focus on heavy construction equipment or related fields.
- Familiarity with diesel engine repair, automotive diagnostics, transmissions, air brakes, alignment, hydraulics, suspension systems, HVAC systems, and welding techniques.
- Experience working with various types of machinery including Caterpillar products and tractor-trailers is preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to lift heavy objects as needed.
- Proficient in using hand tools and power tools effectively and safely.
- Electrical experience is a plus; ability to solder is advantageous.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail in diagnostics and repairs.
- Strong communication skills for effective customer interaction and teamwork within the shop environment.
