Portfolio Company Controller Position Summary
A Crescent Peak portfolio company is seeking a highly capable Director of Finance and Accounting to lead the accounting and financial operations of a fast-paced rapidly growing business. This individual will play a critical leadership role in managing financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, cash management, and operational accounting while supporting the company’s long-term growth strategy.
The position will be based out of our Pittsburgh, PA office. This role will also require approximately 20% travel to support operations, leadership collaboration, and portfolio initiatives.
The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on—someone who can operate at a high level while also ensuring the day-to-day financial functions of the business are executed with accuracy and discipline.
Importantly, this opportunity exists due to the planned retirement of the company’s current Controller. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with executive leadership and Crescent Peak leadership in helping build scalable financial processes, improve operational visibility, and support business performance across a growing platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and month-end close
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Maintain financial reporting packages for executive leadership and ownership
- Manage cash flow forecasting, working capital, and banking relationships
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
Operational & Strategic Support
- Develop and improve financial controls, systems, and operational processes
- Partner with operations and leadership teams to analyze performance and drive decision-making
- Monitor project/job costing, margins, and operational KPIs where applicable
- Support audits, tax filings, and coordination with external accounting partners
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency
- Assist with strategic initiatives, acquisitions, integrations, and growth planning as needed
Leadership
- Lead and develop accounting and administrative personnel
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity in all financial and operational matters
- Develop into a broader strategic finance leadership role supporting long-term company growth initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA preferred but not required
- 5 years of progressive accounting or finance leadership experience
- Experience in construction, industrial, manufacturing, or project-based environments preferred
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, internal controls, and operational accounting
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash management
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Willingness to travel approximately 20% as needed
- Leadership mindset with the desire and capability to grow into an executive finance role

Compensation
Base: $135,000-150,000, based on experience
Performance Bonus: Up to 20%.
