Position Summary
- The Remediation Environmental Specialist is responsible for managing and executing soil, groundwater, and surface remediation activities associated with oil and gas operations along with the creation and maintenance of company Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans. This role ensures environmental impacts from exploration, production, and midstream operations are properly characterized, mitigated, and closed in compliance with state and federal regulations. The position requires strong technical knowledge of site assessment, remediation technologies, and regulatory frameworks to drive efficient and compliant site restoration.
- Coordinate and oversee environmental remediation projects across operating areas, including site investigation, corrective action, and reclamation activities.
- Develop, review, and implement Remediation Action Plans (RAPs) and Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) in compliance with applicable state (e.g., TRRC, RRCUT, UDEQ, NMOCD) and federal regulations.
- Supervise field contractors performing soil excavation, groundwater recovery, bioremediation, and other cleanup activities.
- Conduct site assessments including Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), spill delineations, and sampling programs.
- Manage environmental data collection, laboratory analysis coordination, and data interpretation for closure documentation.
- Prepare and submit required reports, including Remediation Completion Reports, Spill Reports, and Regulatory Closure Requests.
- Track and manage remediation budgets, project schedules, and contractor performance metrics.
- Maintain communication with regulatory agencies, landowners, and internal stakeholders regarding remediation progress and closure requirements.
- Support spill response and corrective action investigations as part of the Environmental and HSE teams.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for spill prevention, waste minimization, and site restoration practices.
- Maintain accurate records within environmental management systems and GIS databases.
- Creation and maintenance of SPCC plans for required sites
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Geology, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years of environmental remediation experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably in upstream operations.
- Demonstrated experience with site assessment, soil and groundwater remediation, and regulatory closure processes.
- Experience coordinating with state environmental agencies (TRRC, TCEQ, UDEQ, NMOCD, etc.) and preparing regulatory submittals.
- Strong knowledge of RCRA, CERCLA, SPCC, and state-specific remediation regulations.
- Proficiency with environmental data management software, GIS tools, and analytical data interpretation.
- Understanding of hydrogeology, soil chemistry, and remedial technology selection.
