SNAPSHOT
At Crescent Builds, design isn’t an afterthought — it’s where every project begins. You’ll be the creative and technical lead who turns a homeowner’s vision into a buildable plan, from the first as-built to the last finish selection.
You’re as comfortable reading a full CD set as you are walking a client through tile samples. You’re organized enough to carry several active projects without dropping a detail, and calm enough to make a client feel at ease when a field change comes up mid-build. You respect budget and scope because you know a beautiful design only matters if it can be built, and you work hand in hand with our Project Managers and production team to make sure it is.
We’re hiring at two levels. If you’re a few years in and ready to own more of the process, the Interior Designer role gives you real responsibility with support behind you. If you’ve run projects end to end — drawings, permits, selections, and construction support — the Senior role puts you in the lead on our most complex remodels and additions. Either way, when a client walks into their finished home and it feels like theirs, you’ve done your job well.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Pre-Construction Design
- Develop design packages for residential remodel and addition projects: as-builts, schematic designs, floor plans, elevations, electrical and mechanical plans, and window and door schedules
- Produce SD through CD drawing sets (Senior: independently; Interior Designer: with support and review)
- Coordinate with architects and engineers on structural drawings needed for permitting
- Prepare and manage permit submittals with local municipalities
- Guide clients through interior selections: cabinetry layouts, finishes, material sourcing, and physical samples
- Document all finish selections in JobTread
- Partner with Project Managers so design intent is accurately scoped and priced in proposals
- Help set pre-construction and design schedules, and keep client expectations realistic at every stage
Construction Support
- Stay in regular contact with clients to confirm design alignment and resolve field questions
- Relay design updates to the production team, trade partners, architects, and suppliers
- Confirm material take-offs with Project Leads on site
- Order and quality-check finish materials on schedule
- Visit job sites to verify design and selections are being executed correctly
Design Team Support
- Research and sample new finish materials; keep our sample library current
- Build and maintain vendor relationships
- Support marketing with project photoshoots and imagery
- Keep client files organized and up to date
- (Senior) Mentor junior design staff and help refine our design process and standards
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Present two schematic layout options to a homeowner deciding how to open up their kitchen
- Update a plan set before it heads to the city for permit review
- Walk a bathroom with a Project Lead to review tile layout before install begins
- Track down a delayed plumbing fixture and adjust the schedule with production
- Pull samples for a new client’s first selections meeting
- Join the weekly status meeting to review milestones across active projects
EXPEREINCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Both levels:
- Bachelor’s degree in interior design or a related field, or 4 years of equivalent applied experience
- Residential design experience; remodel or design-build background strongly preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; Bluebeam, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite a plus
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple active projects
- Clear, confident communication with clients, trade partners, and vendors
- Proficiency in MS Office and MS Teams; JobTread experience a plus
- Must have valid driver’s license, insurance, clean driving record, and a reliable vehicle for transportation to job sites
- Ability to be on site: lifting and maneuvering up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods
Interior Designer (3–5 years):
- 3 years of professional interior design or related construction experience
- Working knowledge of residential construction documents — you can read and contribute to a CD set
- Some exposure to the permitting process
Senior Interior Designer (5 years):
- 5 years of professional residential interior design experience
- Track record producing full SD–CD sets independently
- Experience taking projects through permitting from submittal to approval
- Comfortable leading client meetings and owning selections and design budgets end to end
